Hyundai Venue Overview

The Hyundai Venue is a practical daily-use compact SUV rather than a single-focus performance or budget pick. What separates it from most rivals? Engine spread. You can pick a 1.2 petrol for a lower entry cost, a 1.0 turbo-petrol for stronger mid-range response, or a 1.5 diesel if you cover long distances regularly and want better highway efficiency. The diesel now comes with an automatic option too, which matters if you’re commuting in traffic but still want diesel economy. From the mid trims upward, your cabin gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, climate control, a sunroof, wireless charging, and connected car features through Bluelink. Fit-finish feels a step above what you’d expect at this price. The catch? Most of the premium kit (dual curved displays, Bose audio, ADAS) sits near the top of the range. Variant selection matters more here than just picking the Venue over a rival. If you’re a first-time buyer, Hyundai’s wide dealer network and predictable service costs are worth factoring in.

What We Love

  • Wide powertrain mix with petrol, turbo-petrol, diesel and both DCT/AT choices
  • Strong feature depth in upper variants including dual screens and Level 2 ADAS
  • Practical packaging with 2520 mm wheelbase, usable rear seat space and 375-litre boot

Consider This

  • Top-end variants are expensive and overlap with larger SUVs
  • Most premium safety and tech features are concentrated in HX10
  • 1.2 petrol buyers do not get an automatic transmission option

Hyundai Venue Pricing

Prices for the Hyundai Venue range from ₹7,99,900 (1.2 petrol manual HX2) to ₹15,69,100 (1.5 diesel automatic HX10 DT) ex-showroom Delhi. Base trims cover core safety and essentials, mid trims add a sunroof and wireless charger along with better displays, and upper trims bring ADAS, premium audio, ventilated seats, and connected car tech. If you’re considering diesel, the jump from manual to automatic adds roughly ₹95,000 at the HX5 level. That’s worth thinking about if most of your driving is in city traffic. On-road prices vary between cities because RTO, insurance, local taxes, and handling charges differ. Two buyers selecting the same variant in Delhi and Mumbai will end up with different invoices. When comparing costs, it’s smarter to look at total ownership over three to five years, factoring in fuel, insurance renewals, service costs, and potential resale value, rather than just the sticker price.

Hyundai Venue Specifications

Three engines, five gearbox options. The 1.2-litre MPi petrol makes 83 PS and 114.7 Nm with a 5-speed manual, and it’s tuned for relaxed city duty where you don’t need much beyond predictable throttle response and a low running cost. The 1.0-litre turbo GDi petrol is a step up: 120 PS, 172 Nm, available with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. Feels noticeably quicker during overtakes and highway merges. Then there’s the 1.5-litre CRDi diesel at 116 PS and 250 Nm, offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Torque-rich and fuel-efficient for loaded highway trips. Which combo should you go with? If you’re mostly doing city stop-go on a budget, the 1.2 petrol does fine. Mixed driving with some highway use, test the turbo-petrol first. High monthly kilometres, the diesel is hard to beat on running costs.

Hyundai Venue Dimensions

At 3995 mm long, the Venue stays under the sub-4 metre tax bracket. But it’s 1800 mm wide with a 2520 mm wheelbase, so the cabin doesn’t feel cramped the way some older compact SUVs did. Rear-seat knee room is reasonable for two adults, and the extra wheelbase helps stability on the highway. Height goes up to 1665 mm with roof rails, and ground clearance is 190 mm. Enough for speed breakers and broken city roads without scraping. The 375-litre boot fits a couple of medium suitcases and soft bags for a weekend trip. Higher trims get a 60:40 rear seat split, handy when you need to carry longer items alongside passengers. For daily city use, the sub-4 metre length keeps parking and U-turns manageable. It’s compact where it needs to be, without making the cabin or boot feel like an afterthought.

Hyundai Venue Safety Rating

Six airbags come standard on every Venue variant. ESC, VSM, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchors, seatbelt reminders for all seats, and impact-sensing auto door unlock are all part of the base package. Move up to mid trims and you get TPMS and rear camera support. The HX10 adds a full Level 2 ADAS suite: forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, lane following assist, high beam assist, smart cruise control with stop and go, and leading vehicle departure alert. These are useful on long highway runs and reduce driver fatigue when used correctly. They’re assistance tools, not autopilot. One gap to note: Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP haven’t published crash test results for the current Venue. Until a formal rating comes out, buyers are evaluating safety based on equipment depth and body structure claims alone.

Tested By Adult Child Year of Testing Overall Rating
Bharat NCAP not_tested not_tested 2026 No publicly published Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP crash-test score is available for the current Hyundai Venue at this time.

Hyundai Venue Mileage

ARAI-rated efficiency varies across the range. The 1.2 petrol manual is rated at 17.9 km/l, the 1.0 turbo manual at 18.74 km/l, and the turbo DCT at 18.31 km/l. Diesel figures are higher: 20.99 km/l for the manual and 20.2 km/l for the automatic. Real-world numbers will be lower in city conditions, especially with the turbo-petrol in dense stop-go traffic where you’re constantly on and off the throttle. Highway driving at steady speeds gets you closer to ARAI claims across all engines. If you’re doing over 1500 km a month, the diesel makes a stronger case on running costs alone. For mostly urban use under 800 km monthly, the 1.2 petrol keeps things simpler and cheaper to maintain. Automatics, both DCT and torque-converter, tend to lose 1-2 km/l compared to their manual counterparts in heavy traffic. Treat ARAI figures as benchmarks, not promises.

Hyundai Venue Colours

Eight colour options are available, including solid shades and dual-tone roof combinations. Atlas White, Titan Grey, and Abyss Black are the low-maintenance choices and tend to do better in resale conversations. Dragon Red, Hazel Blue, and Mystic Sapphire stand out more but show dust and swirl marks sooner, especially the darker tones. The dual-tone variants with an Abyss Black roof add visual contrast. If keeping the car looking clean between washes matters to you, lighter solid shades are easier to live with daily.

Hyundai Venue Videos

The videos here include official showcase clips and independent review drives. Walkarounds cover design changes, cabin layout, and feature demonstrations like the display interface, Bluelink, and ADAS menus. First-drive reviews add context on ride comfort, engine response, gearbox behaviour, and how the car handles in real traffic. If you’re deciding between petrol and diesel, pay attention to what reviewers say about drivability, cabin noise, and overtaking confidence rather than just power figures. These are selected to help with variant shortlisting before your test drive.

Hyundai Venue Expert Review

Venkatesh Venky
Venkatesh Venky

Close to 30 configurations. That’s where the Hyundai Venue stands right now, with three engines and five gearbox options across the range. But does all that choice actually translate to a good buy? After spending time with the lineup, what stands out is how well each powertrain suits a different type of buyer.

Start with the 1.2 petrol. It makes 83 PS and 114.7 Nm, paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual. Not a performance setup. Throttle response is predictable and linear, fine for daily stop-go driving where you’re rarely pushing past 3000 rpm. It won’t impress you on a highway merge, but for someone doing mostly city kilometres on a budget, it does the job without fuss. The absence of an automatic option here is a miss, though. Want an affordable auto petrol? You’ll have to look elsewhere or step up to the turbo.

The 1.0 turbo-petrol with 120 PS and 172 Nm is a different car altogether. With the 6-speed manual, it feels alert during mid-range pulls and overtakes. Pair it with the 7-speed DCT and you get a smooth city-highway mix, though the DCT can feel a bit hesitant at very low crawl speeds in bumper-to-bumper traffic where your right foot is barely touching the pedal. Sport mode sharpens things up when you want it. For mixed-use driving, test-drive this one first.

The 1.5 diesel (116 PS, 250 Nm) remains the most practical option if your monthly running is high. Low-end torque is genuinely useful when you’re carrying a full car on the highway or climbing a gradient. The 6-speed automatic makes city driving far more relaxed than the manual, and it’s one of the few diesel autos you can get in a sub-4 metre SUV right now. ARAI claims 20.99 km/l for the manual and 20.2 km/l for the automatic. Real-world? Expect 15-16 km/l in the city and 19-20 km/l on the highway. Still competitive for this class.

How does it ride? Sorted for Indian roads, mostly. At city speeds, the suspension absorbs regular potholes and sharp edges without constant cabin fatigue. On the highway, the 2520 mm wheelbase and 1800 mm width give it a planted feel that you don’t always expect from a sub-4 metre car. Body roll shows up on quick direction changes, and it’s not built for corner-carving. But for normal family driving, it feels composed. Steering is light enough for tight parking, and the higher seating position helps your visibility in traffic.

Inside, the cabin feels well put together from mid trims upward. Control placement is straightforward, the touchscreen interface doesn’t take long to figure out, and general fit-finish feels a step above what this segment averaged a few years ago. Upper variants with the dual 12.3-inch curved displays and Bose audio feel genuinely premium for the price you’re paying. Ventilated seats on HX8 and above? Welcome in Indian summers. One complaint: the best tech, including ADAS, surround view monitor, and those curved displays, is locked to HX10. If your budget sits around the mid-range, you won’t get these.

Rear seat space works for two adults. Knee room is adequate thanks to the 2520 mm wheelbase, and the rear recline on higher trims helps on longer trips. Three at the back will be a squeeze, but that’s true of every sub-4 metre SUV. The 375-litre boot takes a couple of medium suitcases and soft bags for a weekend trip without much rearrangement.

Six airbags standard. Strong baseline. ESC, VSM, hill-start assist, and ISOFIX come across the range. The HX10’s Level 2 ADAS suite, with forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, and smart cruise control, does make highway driving less tiring when you use it right. No Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP rating is available for the current Venue yet. Worth keeping in mind.

Where should you be cautious? Variant pricing. The gap between the base HX2 at ₹7,99,900 and the top HX10 DT at ₹15,69,100 is nearly ₹8 lakh. Big spread. At the upper end, you’re overlapping with larger SUVs. Mid trims like HX5 and HX6 tend to offer the better value balance for most private buyers, and that’s where the Venue’s price-to-feature ratio is strongest. The jump to HX10 only makes sense if ADAS and premium audio are non-negotiable for you.

Ownership is fairly straightforward. Hyundai’s service network is wide, parts availability is rarely an issue, and the Venue has established resale demand in this segment. Running costs depend on which engine you pick. The turbo-petrol DCT in dense traffic can return noticeably less than its ARAI figure, while the diesel manual on open roads will come close to claimed numbers.

A practical compact SUV that doesn’t try to be exciting. It covers real-world needs without drama, and it works best when you pick the right variant for your actual driving pattern rather than chasing the top trim’s spec sheet.

Editor's Verdict

A well-rounded compact SUV that gives you real choice in engines, gearboxes, and features. Pick based on your driving pattern and what you'll actually use daily, not just the top trim's headline list.
