Mahindra Thar 5-door test mule was recently spotted during its test runs alongside its more premium brother, the Jeep Wrangler and by putting the two off-roading SUVs side by side we now have a fair idea of the size of the upcoming Thar 5-door.
Mahindra Thar 5-door – Bigger than Jeep Wrangler?
Looking at the latest spy shots, the upcoming Thar seems to be Taller and wider than the Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler is 1,848 tall and 1894 mm wide so the figures will be higher in the upcoming Mahindra SUV. The new Thar will also feature unique styling elements to differentiate from its smaller 3-door variant, which will also be on offer. The Spy shots show us the rear of the upcoming Thar, which sports a slightly tweaked headlight and all-LED lighting.
Previously, we also got a glimpse of the interior, which will likely include a steering wheel from the Mahindra Scorpio N and a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The SUV will also feature a single-pane sunroof, and other features like keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, power windows, steering-mounted audio controls and many safety features including 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a camera, rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The upcoming Thar 5-door is expected to sport the current 2.2-litre diesel engine and 2-litre turbo-petrol unit which produces 130 PS and 150 PS respectively, with room for possible power upgrades. The mills will be mated with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and will likely be offered in both rear-wheel and 4WD options.
The upcoming 5-door Thar will be launched by Mahindra sometime in 2024 and will obviously be priced above the 3-door model which starts from Rs 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom), which might increase since Mahindra recently announced a price hike on their cars from 2024.. This SUV will directly rival the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Jimny.
