Maruti Fronx Overview

Fronx sits between a premium hatchback and a compact SUV in both size and price, which is exactly why it’s worked for such a wide range of buyers. At 3995 mm it’s compact enough for daily parking and dense city traffic, but the higher seating position gives it a presence your hatchback doesn’t have. Five powertrain types, from factory CNG to turbo automatic, mean you don’t need to look at another model to find what suits your commute. What’s the actual appeal? It isn’t one standout feature. It’s the combination: easy controls, multiple fuel paths, NEXA service reach, and a price ladder that lets you enter where it makes sense for your budget. Families upgrading from a hatchback won’t find the driving experience intimidating. If you’re mostly doing city runs with occasional highway trips, it handles both without big compromises.

What We Love

  • Wide variant spread with petrol, turbo-petrol, AMT, torque-converter automatic, and CNG choices
  • Strong claimed fuel efficiency and low running-cost appeal for daily commuting
  • Top variants offer premium features like HUD, 360 camera, and connected car functions

Consider This

  • No officially published Bharat NCAP crash-test score for the India-spec model
  • CNG variants lose practical boot usability due to cylinder packaging
  • Entry variants miss several convenience and infotainment features expected by some buyers

Maruti Fronx Pricing

Ex-showroom prices run from ₹6.85 lakh to ₹11.98 lakh. Wide spread for a single model. Entry petrol manuals keep your acquisition cost down. Mid-range Delta Plus and Zeta trims add the upgrades you’ll actually use daily. Alpha turbo variants at the top are priced into compact SUV territory. Before you decide, look at full on-road cost rather than just sticker price. Road tax slabs and insurance premiums vary by state, and that can move your final number noticeably. In Delhi, on-road pricing for the base petrol typically starts in the high ₹7 lakh range; top turbo automatic trims cross ₹13 lakh. Don’t forget to factor in annual fuel spend alongside your EMI, since over 3–4 years it can matter as much as the monthly instalment. Starting point for most buyers? Delta Plus or Delta Plus AMT, stepping up only if you genuinely need turbo performance or top-trim tech.

Maruti Fronx Specifications

Three powertrain paths are on offer. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol produces 88.5 bhp and 113 Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. The factory CNG setup uses the same 1.2-litre base, tuned to 76.4 bhp and 98.5 Nm, with a manual gearbox only. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo makes 98.69 bhp and 147.6 Nm, available with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque-converter automatic with paddle shifters. How do they feel? The 1.2 is smooth and predictable for city routes where you aren’t pushing hard. The turbo’s stronger torque makes a noticeable difference when you’re overtaking with a full load or maintaining highway speeds. City-only use? The 1.2 is your sensible pick. For mixed highway running, the turbo doesn’t feel stretched.

Maruti Fronx Dimensions

At 3995 mm long and 1765 mm wide, the Fronx stays under 4 metres. Height is 1550 mm, wheelbase is 2520 mm. Ground clearance of 190 mm handles your daily speed breakers and broken urban roads without scraping. Boot capacity? 308 litres in petrol variants. CNG variants lose usable boot space because the cylinder sits in that area, so don’t plan on packing for four comfortably. Turning radius is 4.9 m, which helps you in tight spots and basement parking. Two adults at the rear? Comfortable. Three across works for short distances, but shoulder room and under-thigh support are class-average. Not generous.

Maruti Fronx Safety Rating

Six airbags now come across the Fronx range, covering front, side, and curtain positions. Active safety includes Electronic Stability Program, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensors. Higher variants add a 360-degree camera. You also get three-point ELR seatbelts for all five seats, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and seatbelt reminders front and rear. The structure uses Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform with high-tensile steel for rigidity. Crash-tested? No Bharat NCAP result has been published for the India-spec Fronx as of 2026. Factor that in. The available safety kit covers daily priorities for an urban family, but check the official Bharat NCAP website for updates before you book.

Maruti Fronx Mileage

ARAI efficiency figures: 21.79 km/l (1.2 manual), 22.89 km/l (1.2 AMT), 21.5 km/l (turbo manual), 20.01 km/l (turbo automatic), 28.51 km/kg (CNG). Lab numbers. Your real-world city returns will typically run 2–4 km/l below for petrol variants, depending on traffic, AC usage, and how you drive. The AMT holds up in flowing traffic but dips in heavy stop-go. Turbo automatic on the highway? Reasonable at steady cruise, but more sensitive to your right foot. Push hard and it’ll show. CNG gives the lowest per-kilometre cost if you’ve got reliable filling access nearby. The trade-off is boot space, which is reduced significantly. How do you choose between petrol and CNG? Lower annual mileage usually favours petrol convenience. High monthly running can make the CNG economics worth the boot compromise.

Maruti Fronx Colours

Ten colour options across monotone and dual-tone finishes. Arctic White and Splendid Silver are the easy-maintenance picks for daily city use. Dual-tone combinations like Earthen Brown with Bluish Black roof and Opulent Red with Black roof add visual contrast at a small premium. Darker monotone shades show the crossover’s design lines well, but they’ll pick up dust more visibly in dry conditions. Thinking about resale? Neutral colours generally move faster. Dual-tone pairs are the more popular choice if you’re buying for style over practicality.

Maruti Fronx Videos

The video section combines official brand content with buyer-oriented walkarounds and real-use mileage tests. Official videos cover the turbo positioning and key feature focus. Independent walkarounds discuss ground clearance, city practicality, and variant differences in more direct terms. Mileage-focused clips? They add real-world context to the ARAI figures, which is useful if fuel efficiency is high on your shortlist. Watching across video types helps you sort through common decisions: 1.2 versus turbo, petrol versus CNG, and whether the turbo automatic’s pricing makes sense for how you drive.

Maruti Fronx Expert Review

Venkatesh Venky
Venkatesh Venky

The Fronx doesn’t try to be more than what most city buyers actually need from a crossover. Compact footprint, light controls, predictable fuel costs, and a variant range that covers everyone from hatchback upgraders to turbo-automatic buyers. That’s the pitch. Does it hold up? For the most part, yes.

Start with the 1.2-litre petrol, which is where most sales sit. In manual form it’s smooth and easy-going in city traffic, with throttle response tuned for comfort rather than urgency. That actually suits heavy stop-go conditions where drivability matters more than outright pace. The AMT variant has the usual mild lag on aggressive inputs. Not sporty. But if you’re commuting in crawling traffic daily, it keeps your left leg from tiring out and feels like a natural step up from a hatchback clutch.

Want more from the engine? The 1.0-litre turbo is a different car. With 147.6 Nm, mid-range pull is noticeably stronger. Overtaking with a full load or pushing onto an expressway feels more relaxed than the naturally aspirated motor. If your commute includes regular highway stretches, the turbo is worth the price gap. The 6-speed automatic on turbo trims adds genuine convenience, and paddle shifters give you some control on downhill sections.

Fuel efficiency holds up well. ARAI claims of 22.89 km/l for the 1.2 AMT and 21.5 km/l for the turbo manual track reasonably in mixed use, though your real city figures will be lower with AC running in traffic. The factory CNG setup gives the Fronx its lowest per-kilometre running costs. Unlike aftermarket conversions, you keep warranty compatibility. What you lose is boot space. The CNG cylinder takes up a significant portion of the 308-litre boot, and packing for four on any real trip requires planning. Is that saving worth the compromise? Depends on your annual mileage and whether you have a reliable CNG station nearby.

Feature packaging on upper trims is practical rather than decorative. The head-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless charger, and Suzuki Connect on Alpha variants genuinely improve your daily routine. The 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ responds well, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connect without fuss. Six airbags across the range now. Tangible improvement from earlier configurations.

Ride comfort leans urban. Speed breakers and broken patches are handled adequately at city speeds, and 190 mm of ground clearance covers most scenarios without drama. Rear seat space? Fine for two adults. Three across is manageable for short runs, but shoulder room and under-thigh support on the rear bench won’t impress you. Don’t count on three adults being comfortable over a long highway stretch.

Ownership through NEXA is a tangible plus. Parts availability isn’t something you’ll worry about, and service intervals are well-documented. If your shortlist includes the Nexon or Venue, the Fronx’s case is the breadth of powertrain options in one model line and a running-cost record that’s hard to argue with.

Which variant makes sense for you? The 1.2 manual for lowest acquisition cost. The 1.2 AMT if your commute is traffic-heavy. Turbo manual if performance matters but you want to stay below ₹10 lakh. Turbo automatic for convenience and performance together. CNG if monthly fuel savings are your priority and you can manage with less boot space. For most buyers, Delta Plus through Zeta is where the value sits.

Editor's Verdict

Fronx covers the core ownership priorities at its price: predictable fuel costs, a clutch-free option for city traffic, and enough variant spread to match different commute profiles. Match the powertrain to how you actually drive, and it's hard to fault under ₹12 lakh.
