New Spy Shots of the upcoming Volkswagen Tayron have recently surfaced from China which gives a glimpse at how the inside of the 7-seater SUV looks from inside. The Tayron is basically a longer version of the new generation Tiguan and hit the roads of China as the Tiguan L Pro, before launching in India in 2025. The SUV will be locally assembled through CKD kits and will rival the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.
Volkswagen Tayron Interior Leaked – Same as Tiguan?
As per the leaked pictures, the inside of the Tayron looks very much similar to the Tiguan, since it is based on the SUV. The minimalistic dashboard is dominated by screens, as many as 3 – The digital instrument cluster, the main infotainment screen and an extra screen on the passenger side of the dashboard. The infotainment screen also gets a backlit slider controller at the bottom, again similar to the Tiguan.
However, the AC vents on the side have a new look and the centre console also has a near layout with a rotary dial for the drive selector, wireless charging pod, audio controls and two cupholders. Furthermore, the centre console also features a large storage area underneath it, but there are very few physical buttons, most of which are visible on the steering wheel.
Overall, the cabin looks quite premium with soft-touch materials, sporty seats, and contrast stitching with blue piping, although it is not clear yet what the 7-seater layout looks like and how spacious is it. However, expect it to have more cabin space than the Tiguan AllSpace, since the regular Tiguan is more spacious than its ancestor.
The new Tayron is based on VW’s new MQB EVO platform which also underpins the new Skoda Kodiaq. The Chinese version of the SUV gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with a 2.0-litre diesel also expected in other markets. All the powertrains will feature a 48V mild-hybrid setup with either a 4WD or 2WD option.
The company will also offer the choice of 2 plug-in hybrids with an electric-only range of over 100 km and DC fast charging capability. The petrol variant will get a 1.5-litre unit paired with an electric motor, a 19.7 kWh battery pack and a 6-speed DSG gearbox and will be a 2WD only. The India-spec Tayron will likely sport the 2.0-litre petrol engine.
Volkswagen also revealed the ID 3 GTX hatchback which is a sporty, performance-orientated EV variant of the iconic Golf GTI. Check it out!
