Tata Motors is all set to launch the Altroz Racer in India next month. The sportier version of the hatchback has been showcased twice – once at last year’s Auto Expo and a 2nd time at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show with minor tweaks in design.
Starting with the main highlight, the Atroz Racer will be powered by the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon that generates 120 hp and 170 Nm of Torque, 10 hp and 30 Nm higher than the Altroz iTurbo. The Racer will likely be offered with a sole 6-speed manual transmission.
Although the overall body design of the Altroz Racer will be the same as the standard Altroz it will get some pretty unique styling such as a dual-tone colour scheme with racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. It will also get “Racer” badging on the front fenders, a slightly revised grille and new alloy wheels.
Going inside, the hot hatch will likely sport new leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching and coloured accents on the dashboard. The car will also be loaded with new features including a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, segment-first ventilated seats and a voice-assisted sunroof. These features will also be carried over to the regular Altroz at a later stage. The Racer variant will also get 6 airbags and ESC as standard.
Expect the Altroz Racer to be priced between Rs 10 to 13 Lakhs, given its flagship positioning. Upon launch it will compete with the likes of Hyundai i20 N Line and also the turbo-petrol variants of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Taisor.
