Chinese carmaker Dongfeng recently unveiled the Nammi 01 EV at the 21st Guangzhou Auto Show and with its cute and compact profile and a decent driving range of 430 km, the Nammi 01 EV seems to be an ideal daily driver for your everyday urban commutes. The pre-sales are currently open with the price range of 79,800 – 109,800 yuan (Roughly Rs 9.46 lakh to Rs 13.02 lakh).
Dongfeng Nammi 01 – Design and specs
Dongfeng Nammi easily stands out with its cute appearance but at the same time retains some stylish elements such as sleek LED DRLs with interconnecting LED strip which looks like eyebrows, triangular headlamps and a mesh-type air dam with a trapezoidal design in metallic finish.
Coming to the side, there’s a subtle character line that goes all the way from the front to the rear tail lights. Talking about the tail lights, they are two trapezoidal-shaped units joined by a wide black strip. There are also dual-tone ORVMs with integrated turn signals on both sides and a raked windshield.
The car is also compact and small since the company designed this car with female customers in focus. This is the brand’s first EV that uses the Dongfeng S3 platform and when it comes to its dimensions, the car is 4,030 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,5709 mm tall with a 2,660 wheelbase. The wheel size will either be 16-inch or 17-inch, depending on the variant.
Dongfeng Nammi 01 Interior and features
Despite being quite cute from the outside, the Nammi 01 follows a very minimalistic design on the inside. The reason for this is to give the interior a very spacious look and feel since the car is small in size. The cockpit is kept as clean as possible with only a few physical buttons on the centre console and dashboard. The floating touchscreen infotainment system and fully digital instrument console let the users access most of the features and functions.
The inside itself feels premium with a dual-tone black and white theme and the use of high-quality materials. There are also full-width AC vents and a two-spoke steering wheel with controls mounted on it. The EV has a max storage space of 945 litres when the seats are folded.
Dongfeng Nammi 01 Range
The Nammi 01 has a front-wheel drive option only with two range options available – 330 km and 430 km. The battery packs are 31.25 kWh and 42.3 kWh respectively and the max power the electric motor can produce is 95 PS with a top speed of 140 kph. The EV supports fast charging and can charge 200 km in just 8 minutes with a 400V fast charger.
Now, though this car isn’t designed for India, especially its price, it’s not a bad idea for brands operating in India to take notes since with the rising number of cars on the road and increasing fuel prices, launching a small and affordable EV for urban commutes like this one won’t be a bad idea, but there’s a slim chance of this happening, with the 4 wheeler space in India is being heavily dominated by SUVs which even has their footprint in the EV and affordable segment too.
