Bajaj New Electric scooter spotted, is it new Chetak?

Bajaj Auto has hit a sixxer with the new Chetak electric scooter lineup and it has managed to successfully a good chunk of the two-wheeler electric scooter market. A recently spotted test mule suggests that Bajaj is working on a new scooter, supposedly a new Chetak. The test prototype was heavily wrapped in camouflage but the silhouette made it clear and we have a guess where this scooter fits in the family.

Bajaj is seemingly working on a more affordable Chetak, so this scooter could be that or it can be an entirely new model that aims to target the lower-end of the electric segment. Whatever the case is, Bajaj will most likely carry the Chetak nametag, since its electric scooters are in high demand in India. However, it might not carry the same design elements as the existing units.

The styling of this camouflaged test mule appears to be different from the rest of the lineup. The headlamp seems identical but the seating is quite cramped including the floorboard. Its retro look is further enhanced by oval mirrors and fork covers while the rear of this e-scooter sports a single-pod taillight, unlike the dual-pod unit on the other Chetak. The scooter looks quite compact which will make it an easy-to-ride vehicle for daily urban commuting, whether it’s office or gym or both.

Hardware-wise, the testing model appears to have dual rear shock absorbers, 12-inch wheels on both front and rear and a front disc brake. Practicality is also enhanced with the addition of a front apron hook.

Although the powertrain is not yet known, however, if this is the affordable Chetak test mule, Bajaj will likely go with a hub-mounted electric motor which will help to keep the costs in control. Expect a smaller battery pack that will help the scooter reach a top speed of 50 kmph, in order to launch the scooter with an aggressive pricing.

Speaking of price, the current entry-level Chetak 2903 model is priced at Rs 95,998 (ex-showroom) so it’s possible for the brand to retail its upcoming electric scooter at around Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom) which will help keep a price difference between this new affordable scooter and the Chetak lineup and thus will make an attractive option or budget buyers.

Until Bajaj launches or reveals the scooter officially, all we can do is speculate and from the spy spots, it seems the electric scooter is still in its early stages of testing so it is not coming anytime soon. The design might be similar too with the rest of the Chetak range but a few differences but only time will tell.
