Honda Africa Twin Lineup has recently got its 2024 update and brings some good changes. The Africa Twin is quite popular and is a desirable bike for touring and adventure. Honda sells the Africa Twin Adventure sports in India but not the base model.
Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports – Now more Touring-friendly
The Adventure Sports in the new update gets a 19-inch front wheel which measures 110/80-19, which is thicker than the previous 90/90-21 tyre. The 19-inch front wheel will now make touring better and won’t strain you that much.
What might strain you is the Africa Twin’s seat height which is adjustable between 835 mm -855 mm courtesy of the 15 mm thicker foam used in the seat. But if you are in India, you are in luck since the suspension in Africa Twin’s Indian variant is lowered, meaning it brings down the seat height to 810 mm -830 mm which is manageable.
The bike features a 1082cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke SI Engine that produces 99 hp of power.
Honda Africa Twin standard – Some good upgrades
The standard Africa Twin now comes with the Showa semi-active suspension as found in its Adventure Sports sibling but as an extra. The motorbike will also feature tubeless spoked rims that will make punctures a less hassle to fix.
The bike features a 1082cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke SI Engine that churns out 99 hp of power, the same as the Adventure sports.
Like I said before, the bike hasn’t been sold in India since the base model grew to 1100 cc and there’s a chance this variant makes its way to the Indian market.
Honda Africa Twin – What are the common updates?
Both the bikes will get their DCT gearbox finely tuned which will make it smoother in the initial 2 gears. The fairing also gets some upgrades in the form of a new 5-step adjustable front windscreen.
Apart from that, the engine compression ratio has also been tuned up, which also bumped up the peak torque slightly to 112 Nm at 5,500 which previously was 103 Nm at 6,250 RPM.
Honda Africa Twin – Quick Wiki and Rivals
If you ask what’s the difference between the Standard and the adventure sports, firstly the former has a weight of 226 kg while the latter is heavier at 238 kg. Also, the standard has a smaller 18.8L fuel tank while the Adventure sports has a bigger 24.8L fuel tank. These are the two major differences.
The Africa Twin has a legendary reputation for being a rugged machine and it got it after winning the most demanding desert rally, the Dakar, 4 consecutive times and has gone through a major upgrade in 2022 and this latest 2024 definitely will carry the legacy ahead.
As for the rivals, the bike rivals the currently on-sale BMW R 1250 GS and also the newly launched BMW R 1300 GS, considering its engine displacement, but if we go by the power, the BMWs are much more powerful, so it won’t be wrong to say the BMW F 850 GS and Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro is closer rival than the former two.
