BMW Motorrad has recently launched the latest R 12 and R 12 nineT roadster in India at Rs 19.90 Lakh (ex-showroom). Both bikes now come with refreshed ergonomics and more safety features.
BMW R 12, R 12 nineT – Highlights
As part of BMW’s heritage motorcycle lineup, these models rival the Triumph Speed Twin and Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster in India. Key features are obviously their old-school aesthetic paired with some unique touches such as brushed side panels, an aluminium tank, dual exhausts and spoke wheels.
Both the BMWs are powered by a 1,170 cc, air/oil-cooled boxer engine that churns out 110 hp at 7,000 RPM and 115 Nm at 6,500 RPM.
But while the R 12 features a steel tank based on the 1970s BMW /5 models, the R 12 nineT showcases an aluminium tank with brushed side panels. Both the models get full-LED lighting, an adaptive LED headlight and advanced tech like traction control, cornering ABS, keyless ignition, engine braking control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The R 12 nineT also sports standard riding modes including Road, rain and Dynamic while the new R 12 offers cooler modes like Rock and Roll. Both the models run on 17-inch wheels and are suspended to a 45 mm USD at the front and a paralever swingarm at the rear. Braking on both bikes is taken care of by 310 mm discs and a rear 265 mm rotor. Furthermore, there’s also a comfort package that offers extra features like Shift Assistant Pro, Hill Start Control Pro, cruise control and heated grips.
