Aprilia SR 175 launched with new engine and features

The SR 175 was previously reported to have started reaching dealership ahead of its launch but the price was not disclosed by the brand. The scooter is powered by a new 174.7 cc (Increased displacement thanks to the larger bore), air-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a 3-valve setup. This new unit generates 12.92 bhp at 7,200 RPM and 14.14 Nm at 6,000 RPM which is improved when compared to the SR 160’s 11.27bhp and 13.44Nm.

Next up, we have the addition of a new colour TFT instrument console, which seems to be borrowed from the bigger RS 457 and Tuono 457. However, the UI and animations are very different and offer multiple layout options. Similar to the 457’s unit, this display also offers Bluetooth connectivity, which allows smartphone pairing through the Aprilia app for call/notification alerts and music control.

In terms of hardware, components like the frame, brakes, suspension and tyres remain unchanged from the SR 160. The scooter still runs on 14-inch wheels with 120-section tyres. Braking is taken care of by a front disc brake with single-channel ABS paired with a drum unit at the rear.

Looks-wise, the Aprilia SR 175 is pretty much the same as the SR 160, except the former gets new colour options that seem to be inspired by the RS 457. Paint Combos like white with red and purple with red both look very similar to the RS’s colours.

In terms of the engine displacement, the new SR 175 does not have any direct competitors in India, especially in its segment. Priced at Rs 1.26 Lakh, its closest rivals are the Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160, both of which are maxi-scooters and bigger than the Aprilia. The upcoming TVS Ntorq 150 might also compete with the SR 175.
