Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Spotted in Ladakh

Royal Enfield is gearing up to enter the electric segment with many EVs lined up. At the 2024 EICMA, the brand showcased a prototype of an electric version of the Himalayan, called the HIM-E, which stands for Himalayan Electric. A test mule for the same has been spotted in Ladakh, meaning a production unit is on the way. Let’s check it out.

Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Test Mule Spied in Ladakh

RE is developing the production version of the Himalayan Electric, which was recently spotted at a hotel in Ladakh during test runs conducted by the brand. Looking at the spy shots, it seems the motorcycle is close to production.

The Himalayan has been one of India’s most popular adventure tourer motorcycles thanks to its versatile touring and off-roading package. With the Himalayan Electric spied, it will carry the same excellent Off-roading DNA with decent touring capabilities.

Compared to the HIM-E Prototype, RE has polished a lot of things in this version. The bike is almost full aluminium with some exposed welds on its custom aluminium swingarm still visible. The mainframe and subframe seem to be custom aluminium units and not tubular trellis.

The motor and battery are integrated in the chassis with aluminium luggage mounts at the front of these bikes, just like the Himalayan 411 and Himalayan 450. Even the Heel Plates are aluminium too, and the Himalayan Electric gets off-road pegs. The battery case is also aluminium.

The design overall is more of a practical over-style, which is evident from its single-piece seat that extends to its fuel tank, similar to the HIM-E concept. A front beam is missing, but we do get a tall windscreen. The lighting is all LED, too, with an LED projector headlamp and tail lamp integrated into its rear turn indicators.

As for components, the RE Himalayan Electric gets quite premium features such as SM Pro Platinum Spoked wheels that are made of billet aluminium wrapped with knobby type Bridgestone Battlax Adventurecross tyres. Braking is taken care of by Petal discs at both ends with Nissin Callipers.
