With the launch of the Hunter 350, Royal Enfield has successfully expanded its portfolio and appeal, making the brand more accessible than before. To maintain this expansion, the brand seems to be working on a brand-new 250 cc engine platform to use for many upcoming models.
Royal Enfield 250cc engine details
The new Royal Enfield 250 cc platform is a plan that supposedly was on hold for years now. Internally codenamed the V platform, this 250 cc unit will likely have a simple and no-nonsense architecture to keep the costs as low as possible. Considering this, it’s safe to say that this motor will be more in line with the 350 cc air-cooled units rather than the more advanced liquid-cooled Sherpa 450. The first V-platform bike will debut somewhere around 2026-27.
This new 250 cc model range will make Royal Enfield more accessible as a brand, especially after the increased prices across its portfolio since BS6 norms started. This 250 cc platform will have bikes that will be more appealing to the younger people who want a Royal Enfield.
Furthermore, Royal Enfield is also open to a Hybrid option with this new 250 cc engine, although it’s barely an experiment of the R&D department right now. Currently, the only other bikemaker with a Hybrid Motorcycle on sale is Kawasaki with its Ninja 7 Hybrid.
If we go back in time, this is not the 1st 250 cc bike from Royal Enfield. The brand has produced 250 ccs in the past like the Clipper and the OG 1965 Continental GT 250.
