Fuel Cost Calculator (Daily City Fuel Prices)
Petrol, diesel and CNG prices change daily and differ city to city across India. Pick your city and this fuel cost calculator works out your fuel cost per km, monthly fuel spend and trip cost from the latest recorded pump price and your car's mileage. It also computes the break-even point between petrol, diesel and CNG before you choose.
Mileage works in km/l or l/100km — whichever your car quotes. Not sure what your car really returns? Measure it first with the mileage calculator and it hands the figure straight back to this page.
Prices last updated 14 Jul 2026 for this city — today's pump price may differ slightly. You can type your local price into the price field below.
Calculate Your Fuel Cost
Live price fills in automatically (₹/kg for CNG) — edit it any time to override.
No automatic route lookup — enter the distance you'd actually drive, and tolls if your route has them.
Fuel cost formula: Fuel cost = (distance ÷ mileage) × fuel price, and cost per km = fuel price ÷ mileage (km/l).
Assumes: Delhi petrol at ₹102.12 (as of 14 Jul 2026), 17 km/l and 40 km/day on the daily tab; 250 km, 4 passengers and ₹0 tolls on the trip tab; diesel at 20 km/l, a ₹120,000 premium and 1,500 km/month on the compare tab; the real-world toggle applies ARAI −12% — edit above.
Fuel Consumption Calculator: km/l or l/100km
Indian brochures quote mileage in km/l, while European spec sheets and most fleet paperwork use litres per 100 km — the same fact, inverted. The conversion is simple: l/100km = 100 ÷ km/l, so 17 km/l works out to 5.88 l/100km. The mileage field above accepts either unit; the converter below flips between them instantly.
How to Estimate Real-World Mileage from the ARAI Figure
The ARAI number on the brochure comes from a laboratory test cycle, and real traffic almost never matches it — knock 10–15% off for a realistic planning figure. That is exactly what the "real-world" toggle above does when you pick a car (it applies −12%, the middle of that band). Better still, measure your own: two brim-to-brim fill-ups with the mileage calculator beat any estimate.
Worked Example: Daily Petrol Cost in Delhi
Take a petrol car returning 17 km/l, driven 40 km a day in Delhi. At the latest price of ₹102.12 per litre, each kilometre costs ₹6.01 (price ÷ mileage). Over a day that is ₹240, which compounds to ₹7,210 a month and ₹87,703 a year — the chain the calculator runs on every input you change.
| Step | Math | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per km | ₹102.12 ÷ 17 km/l | ₹6.01/km |
| Per day | ₹6.01 × 40 km | ₹240 |
| Per month | daily × 30 | ₹7,210 |
| Per year | daily × 365 | ₹87,703 |
Petrol, Diesel and CNG Cost per KM
How much does 1 km of petrol cost?
At the latest Delhi price of ₹102.12 per litre and a typical 17 km/l, petrol costs ₹6.01 per km. A thirstier car doing 12 km/l pays ₹8.51/km at the same pump.
How do you calculate cost per kilometer?
Cost per km = fuel price per litre ÷ mileage in km/l — at ₹102.12/litre and 17 km/l, that is ₹6.01 per km.
How many litres of petrol for 100 to 1,000 km?
At 15 km/l and the latest Delhi petrol price:
| Distance | Litres needed | Fuel cost |
|---|---|---|
| 100 km | 6.7 L | ₹681 |
| 200 km | 13.3 L | ₹1,362 |
| 500 km | 33.3 L | ₹3,404 |
| 1,000 km | 66.7 L | ₹6,808 |
Diesel and CNG follow the same math — switch the fuel above and the calculator uses that price.

Monthly Running Cost by Segment
What "normal" looks like at 30 km a day (about 900 km a month) on the latest Delhi prices, using the midpoint of each segment's real-world mileage band. Your number moves with your city's price and your daily running — the Daily / Monthly tab above computes it exactly.
| Segment | Assumed mileage | Cost per km | Per month (30 km/day) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol hatchback | 16 km/l | ₹6.38 | ₹5,740 |
| Petrol compact SUV | 14 km/l | ₹7.29 | ₹6,560 |
| Diesel sedan / SUV | 21 km/l | ₹4.53 | ₹4,080 |
| CNG hatchback | 25 km/kg | ₹3.32 | ₹2,990 |

Fuel is the running-cost half of the picture — add annual maintenance and insurance renewal on top and you have your true cost of car ownership, the figure worth comparing before a purchase.
Trip Fuel Cost: What a Road Trip Really Costs
Fuel is the predictable half of a road trip budget: distance ÷ mileage × price, which the Trip Cost tab computes in one step, litres included. The unpredictable half is tolls — a long expressway run can add ₹1.5–2 per km on top of fuel, which is why the tab has a manual tolls field instead of a guessed route estimate. Split the total across passengers and a full car often beats train fares on the same route.
Petrol vs Diesel vs CNG: When the Premium Pays Back
Diesel and CNG variants cost more to buy but less per km, so the question is never "which fuel is cheaper" — it is how many kilometres you need to recover the premium. Divide the extra purchase cost by the per-km saving and you get a break-even distance; divide that by your monthly running for the payback period. The Compare Fuels tab runs this with the latest prices in your city, and uses real variant price gaps when you pick a car from our portfolio.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the fuel prices in this calculator come from?
Petrol, diesel and CNG prices for Indian cities are updated daily from published pump-price sources. A sudden large change is never published blindly: where a second source is available it is independently corroborated first, and single-source locations wait until a later daily fetch repeats the price. Each price shows its effective date — if a city hasn't updated, the stamp tells you honestly.
Why do fuel prices differ so much between cities?
State VAT is the biggest variable — it ranges from under 15% to over 30% on petrol. Add local levies, dealer commissions and transport costs from the nearest depot, and the same litre can differ by ₹8–10 between cities.
How accurate is a fuel consumption calculator against real driving?
The math is exact for the mileage you enter — the honesty is in the mileage figure. ARAI-certified figures come from a standardized test cycle; real-world driving typically returns 10–15% less. Use our mileage calculator to measure your actual km/l, then feed it here.
How long does a CNG car take to pay back its premium?
At typical prices, CNG runs 30–50% cheaper per km than petrol. On a ₹1 lakh premium and 1,500 km/month of running, payback lands around 18–30 months. The Compare Fuels tab computes it for your exact numbers and city.
How do I calculate fuel cost per kilometer?
Divide the fuel price by your car's mileage: cost per km = price per litre ÷ km per litre. At ₹95/litre and 17 km/l, that is ₹5.59 per km. Multiply by your daily running for daily cost.
Data Sources & Methodology
City fuel prices are refreshed daily from published pump-price data. A large unexpected move is never published blindly — where a second source is available it is corroborated first, and single-source cities wait for the next day's fetch to repeat the price. Every price on this page carries its effective date. The cost math is exact for the mileage you enter; real-world mileage is the honest variable, and the mileage calculator measures it.
Estimates, not quotes. Computed from published state tax slabs, IRDAI-notified insurance rates and daily fuel price feeds; your dealer or lender's final figure can differ.
