From Honda to Yamaha, these are the Upcoming electric scooters that have the highest potential to hit our shores. Electric scooters are gaining their own fanbase in India, partly due to their lightweight and low running costs. Also, the introduction of services like Drive EV further promotes the practicality and affordable nature of electric scooters.
So, it is only fair we talk about the upcoming electric scooters, 6 to be exact, that will come to India by 2025.
Suzuki Burgman Electric
The scooter is powered by a 4kW motor with a range of 45 km and a top speed of 60 mph. The battery will likely be a swappable unit which will reduce the charging times. The Burgman electric has been spotted testing on Indian roads and has already been launched in Japan, meaning it will be launched very soon.
Kinetic e-Luna
The OG moped of India; Luna will now make a comeback but in an electrified form. The lighting setup will likely be full LED and will sport an LCD instrument cluster. The battery will be covered by a practical floorboard, which also lets you carry things in it, the same as in other scooters.
Talking about the design, the e-Luna will have the classic moped design with a split-seat setup, front crash guards, and foot pegs for the rider. The Rear seat can be removed to install a top box, making it very practical and capable.
There is no information on the battery yet, but expect the range to be around 50-70 km.
Ather two new models
Two Aether models have been confirmed by CEO Tarun Mehta to be 2024’s announcements. Unlike the Aether 450 line-up which covers the sporty segment, these models will be more practical and comfortable. Other details regarding the motor and features are yet to be revealed by the brand.
Honda Activa Electric
Remember how I joked about the Motocompacto being named “Activa-E”? Well, the brand is now expected to release Activa Electric as per their plan of launching 10 new electric 2-wheelers in 5 years in India. The brand has also collaborated with Hindustan Petroleum to install battery-swapping stations across India, but it’s believed another variant with a fixed battery will also be launched.
Yamaha E-01
This Yamaha E-scooter will be sporty and exciting, as promised by the brand. Earlier, the brand decided to launch the electric Neo here, but after noticing the shift of the Indian market courtesy of brands like OLA and Aether towards premium electric scooters, Yamaha decided to bring this electric scooter to take on the competition. The E-01 scooter will cost a premium, but Yamaha already promises it will be worth it.
Bajaj Chetak
Last but not least in the upcoming electric scooters list, we have the Chetak’s electric version, which will likely go through an upgrade. The design and features of the current model will mostly remain the same as the current model. What will change is the current model’s 2.9 kWh battery, which provides a range of 95 km. The new model might sport a bigger 4 kWh battery with an increased range of 110 km.
