Ford Endeavour is all set to make a comeback in India as the brand will restart its operations in our market. But this time the new Endeavour will likely re-enter India as the Everest. This name is used for the endeavour in Thailand and Australia. Ford India could not use the Everest nameplate earlier due to trademark issues, but it is likely to secure the rights for the name now since the brand plans to relaunch it under the Everest name.
Ford Everest in India – Legend Revided Under New Name
The reason for Ford India to switch names is not just for the sake of using a unified global name to reinforce brand image but also switching to the original Everest name will help its re-launch simpler, as the brand won’t have to invest extra in developing and localising fresh badges and logos, which would have been costly and complicated, given the small number of units planned for India.
But it is not clear yet whether Ford will start production of the Everest in India since this will hinder the company’s EV strategy, which is still in plans the company also states that it cannot build the Everest in isolation as it has to fit into one internal production plan with other products. This could also lead to a delay in the start of production of the Everest in India to late 2025 or 2026, but Ford is considering bringing in a small number of imports to fill in the gap as a way to return to the market faster.
The spy shots earlier and the design patent filed by Ford in India, show us that the 3-row, ladder-frame SUV gets a rectangular front end with a large grille, a horizontal bar in its middle and new Matrix LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs at the front. The overall design seems to be more squared than the Endeavour, with an upright stance overall and inverted L-shaled tail lamps. The interior as seen on the international variants, is also vertically oriented with the 12-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen with a 12.4-inch cluster.
Ford might also be considering offering ADAS tech with the SUV considering it will brought in India as the CBU route. Read more about what the upcoming Ford Everest might be offering in terms of additional features and powertrain.
