Xiaomi has unveiled its 1st ever electric vehicle, the SU7 which also marks Xiaomi’s entry into the automobile industry. The car will be manufactured under the smartphone maker’s EV manufacturing wing, Xiaomi EV and is scheduled for launch by 2025.
Xiaomi SU7 – Speed Ultra
In case you are wondering, the name SU stands for “Speed Ultra” and coupled with the sleek and sporty design, this car is likely to be a Performance EV. The car is a 4-door sedan which is 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, 1,455 in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The SU7 will come in 2 configurations and will be differentiated by the driving range and battery capacity.
For battery, Xiaomi will be using their self-developed CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, which integrates the battery into the vehicle, improving structural rigidity. The base variant of the SU7 will come with a 73.6 kWh battery pack while the top version will get a 101 kWh battery. The EV will have a driving range of up to 800 km, as claimed by the brand.
In terms of Performance, the sedan will be giving stiff competition to some of the quickest EVs around the world. Promised by Xiaomi, this EV will generate 21,000 RPM with torque output as high as 635 Nm. While the top speed of lower variants will be 210 kph, the higher variants can go as high as 265 kph and are also claimed to do 0-100 kph in just 2.78s.
According to the Chairman and CEO at Xiaomi, Lei Jun, the EV has been designed to make it a dream car that will be as good as Tesla and Porsche. Although not aimed at the competition, this EV sedan is more than capable of taking on the likes of the Tesla Model S when it comes to looks and performance.
Xiaomi will also offer driving features such as self-parking, high-res cameras, ultrasonic and radar, Lider and more. Production of the EV has already commenced and is being manufactured at one of the facilities owned by Chinese carmaker BAIC group in Beijing. The facility has an annual capacity of 2 lakh vehicles.
