Toyota IMV 0 concept, which is a recently displayed concept as a multi-purpose vehicle and its production model will likely be called “Hilux Champ”. Well the name gives off younger sibling vibes, which is justified considering this multi-adavtive concept based pickup truck is smaller when compared to the Hilux, and itself looks cute and boxy. This small truck will go on sale in AESEAN markets by 2025.
Toyota Hilux Champ – The first IMV 0 based model
The IMV 0 concept based pickup now being called “Hilux Champ” has recently been shown in the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 and previously in Indonasia as the Toyota Rangga concept. And based on some recent Spy shots of the Hilux Champ, its test mule’s design is identical to the concepts shown previously. The boxy and retro bodystyle clearly shouts “FJ40 cruiser” and proves the latter acts an inspiration for the design.
As for the engine, no information has been given yeat, but the pickup is expected to come equipped with the 2.4-litre diesel unit which is fitted inside Innova Crysta along with a strong Hybrid powertrain. There’s an 4WD version rumoured too, but the RWD with automatic gearbox is confirmed.
The main highlight and plus point of this truck as claimed by Toyota is its ability to change bodies according to different uses such as ambulance, a food truck, a coffee bar, a camper and more.
But will the Hilux Champ come to India?
There’s no offical news from Toyota to launch this vehicle in Indian market but there’s a chance that they will likely bring it here as an affordable version of the fortuner or an affordable multi-purpose ladder-frame Hilux pickup truck, since the Hilux is too big and costly for Indian market.
As for Toyota’s global plans, the brand has been expanding some of its premium and popular names for a while now, such as the Century line-up and also expanding the Crown range with a SUV and Sedan. Expanding the Hilux line-up in India with the Hilux Champ, might take some time and effort but it will be a profitable investment for the brand in the long run.
