Bajaj and Triumph have decided to ramp up the production capacity of their new co-developed offerings, the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X, to 10,000 per month by the end of this financial year to meet the high demand in India. Recently, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X also launched after its Speed 400, the latter gaining quite a success which led to this above-mentioned high demand.
Bajaj and Triumph – What’s the plan?
The Plan was to produce 5,000 units per month at the new Chakan Plant and the current capacity of the plant is 5,000-7,000 units per month but with the delivery of over 8,000 new units since the commencement of its deliveries in August and increasing demand, the companies decided to increase their production.
Now the companies also have a plan to launch the bikes in international markets by the end of either October or early November 2023, with the target market being the UK, North America, South America, Southeast Asia and Japan markets and estimated exports to be 20,000-30,000 units.
Apart from that, with the success of the Bajaj and Triumph collaboration, the former also plans to launch at least one model under Triumph’s name annually.
Compared to last year the homegrown giant gained a 2% market share in this category and compared to the rest of the industry’s 12% growth, Bajaj has seen a growth of 36%. The growth has been the most in the 125 cc segment, which is the focused segment of Bajaj Auto.
With the successful collaboration, Bajaj Auto plans to have a steady programme of expansion of the Bajaj-Triumph showrooms with currently 28 dealerships and the goal is to touch 100 cities from the current 20 cities.
