BMW R 1300 GS Confirmed for India – Highlights

Firstly, the ADV features a horizontally-placed 1,300 cc, twin-cylinder engine with a higher combustion ratio than the ongoing 1,254 cc unit. Along with the displacement bump, the output has also increased to 145 hp at 7,750 RPM & 149 Nm of Torque at 6,500 RPM. BMW states that despite the bump up in displacement, the engine is more compact than before, all thanks to the gearbox now placed under the engine.

Coming to the frame, the bike uses an all-new sheet metal mainframe that is fitted to a die-cast aluminium subframe. The engine is a load-bearing member and is suspended through a telelever front and paralever rear, typical of a BMW.

The R 1300 GS weighs 237 kg, which is 12 kg lighter than the 1250, although the former holds a litre less fuel in the 19-litre fuel tank. This is also the first time BMW has added radar-assisted riding aids on a GS model apart from the usual riding modes, traction control, electronic suspension and cruise control.

3 variants of the R 1300 GS have been listed on the Indian website – GS Trophy, Triple Black and the top-spec Option 719 Tramuntana. The first two have alloy wheels while only the Tramuntana sports tubeless spoked rims. Tyre sizes are also common across the 3 variants at 120/70-R19 at the front and 170/60-R17 at the rear.

BMW R 1300 GS features

Currently, the outgoing BMW R 1250 GS is only sold in a single ‘Pro’ variant with a price tag of Rs 20.55 Lakh (ex-showroom, India). Although competitive pricing is expected, BMW will likely price the 1300 GS higher than the outgoing 1250 GS.
