Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Launched – Highlights

Speaking of which, the Pulsar NS400Z is powered by Bajaj Dominar’s liquid-cooled, 373 cc, single-cylinder engine, that has the same 40 hp at 8,800 RPM and 35 Nm at 6,500 RPM output. The top speed is claimed to be 154 kmph by Bajaj. The 6-speed transmission and slip & assist clutch are also carried over to the Pulsar. However, the Pulsar NS400Z uses an underbelly exhaust muffler (Similar to the NS series) unlike the Dominar 400.

Untitled design 2

The Pulsar NS400Z gets a unique headlight design – a central LED projector headlight surrounded by two very lighting bolt-shaped DRLs on both sides, giving it a similar look to the N series. The tank extensions are also quite sharp and overall, the NS400Z’s styling is quite aggressive and edgy. The design however is getting a lot of criticism on social media, similar to what the Verna faced with its new design.

Moving on, the bike comes loaded with features including 4 riding modes (Sport, Road, Rain and Offroad), 3 levels of traction control and switchable dual-channel ABS while in off-road riding mode. The rider aids can be accessed via the colour LCD instrument cluster which has a similar layout to the smaller air-cooled Pulsars, the only difference here is the little screen on the right that lets riders control music playback, show navigation data and even has a lap timer. The switchgear is also a new unit with clutch levers and adjustable brakes.

Suspension duties of the NS400Z are handled by a 43 mm USD fork finished in gold and a preload-adjustable monoshock while the braking is handled by a 320 mm front disc paired with a 4-piston Grimeca axial caliper and a 230 mm rear disc. The bike weighs 174 kg when its 12-litre fuel tank is full, making it 19 kg lighter than the Dominar. The seat height is also an accessible 805 mm.

The front tyre of the bike measures 110/70-17 while the rear one is a 140/70-17 unit. This makes the Pulsar NS400Z one of the only two 40 hp motorbikes to sport a 140-section rear tyre while the other option is the more expensive Yamaha R3.

The Pulsar NS400Z is available in 4 colours and all are priced the same at Rs 1.85 Lakh, although Bajaj Auto has not yet announced a date for the end of this introductory offer. Bookings are open for a minimum token amount of Rs 5,000 across all the Bajaj dealerships and company websites. Deliveries will roll out in the first week of June.
