Although an official statement is yet to be given by Hyundai, the name of their upcoming Electric Pickup truck has been leaked via a trademark filing in Australia. The new name “Ioniq T10″ has been registered under Class 12 and the status of the trademarked name is listed as ‘Accepted: Awaiting development”.
The trademarked name and its status indicate that the Ioniq T10 is almost ready to be used, although it will take a year or two before the Ioniq T10 reaches the production stage. However, as mentioned earlier, Hyundai has yet to comment on this or make an official announcement regarding the upcoming launch of the dual-cab electric UTE.
The 10 in the T10 name indicates that the upcoming dual-cab UTE will be Hyundai’s Ioniq EV lineup’s top dog and the “T” refers to ‘truck’, a common term used in the US for a UTE. Being the top model in the Ioniq range, the Hyundai Ioniq T10 will be quite larger than the other Ioniq cars.
Currently, Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 in Australia. As of now, the brand does not have a UTE vehicle in its vast portfolio, both ICE and EV models. Hence, the Ioniq T10 will be Hyundai’s first dual-cab electric UTE in the Australian market.
Apart from this, Hyundai has also registered another name, which is the “Ioniq T7”. It is likely to be a smaller UTE than the T10 and will work as a work-focused replacement for the Santa Cruz. Coming back to the T10, it will compete against other upcoming dual-cab EV UTEs in Australia.
However, the UTE segment is currently dominated by ICE-powered models which include popular models such as Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Mazda BT-50. The Hyundai Ioniq T10 is expected to be larger than most of the popular offerings, being closer to the Ford F-150 in terms of size.
Hyundai’s sibling Kia has announced that it is developing a new diesel-powered dual-cab UTE which is expected to be named “Tasman” and likely to be introduced sometime in 2025. It will compete with the likes of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
