The upcoming 2024 Hyundai Casper EV SUV has been recently spotted during test runs in Australia and is going to be launched as an affordable EV SUV in the country later this year.
Hyundai Casper EV Test mule Spied in Australia
Two camouflaged test mules of the Hyundai Casper EV have been spotted in Australia recently. Both of them are left-hand drive models and bear a close resemblance to the ICE Casper from the outside.
Key features of the Casper include the circular headlamps, pixel patterns on the LED lights at the front and back, stylish alloys, sleek LED DRLs, C-pillar mounted rear door handles and functional roof rails. New paint jobs are also expected for the Casper EV.
Inside the EV SUV, most of the features will be borrowed from the petrol-powered Casper, although we get to see some upgrades in the form of a new larger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display as compared to the 8-inch screens on the Petrol-powered Casper.
Other features include heated front seats, heated steering, artificial leather upholstery, single pane sunroof, full automatic AC, hi-pass system, mood lamp, and Blue link connectivity.
For safety, the Casper EV is equipped with 7 airbags and a bunch of ADAS features similar to the ICE-powered Casper such as rear collision prevention assistance, front vehicle departure notification, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, high beam assist, lane departure prevention assistance and rear cross-traffic collision prevention assist.
Talking about how big the car will be, the Hyundai Casper EV will reportedly have a tad bit longer wheelbase than the petrol variant, probably to accommodate a larger battery pack. So the EV might gain around 25 cm extra wheelbase, which will allow more cabin space for passengers.
The Petrol-powered Hyundai Casper is 3,595 mm in length, 1,595 mm in width, and 1,575 in height and has a wheelbase of 2,400 mm. What remains to be seen is whether Hyundai offers both short and long-wheelbase variants of the Casper EV or just the long-wheelbase variant.
The estimated driving range that the Casper EV is expected to provide is around 320 km, which is good enough for both city commuting and inter-city journeys.
The Hyundai Casper EV is expected to be launched with a price tag of AUD 40,000, which will make it quite a competitive proposition in the Affordable EV segment of the Australian automobile market. This EV will be the first to be launched as a non-Chinese SUV EV in a Chinese dominated market.
Converting the price tag for the Indian market, we get a figure of around Rs 21.55 lakh, which is not so affordable and competitive for our country anymore. So, instead of the Casper EV, we will get the Exter EV which will directly lock heads with the newly launched Punch EV.
