Toyota to debut Fronx-based Taisor on April 3

Toyota Taisor, which is the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has been officially confirmed to debut on April 3. Considering the collaborations between both brands, the models are expected to be the same with some cosmetic differences from the inside out.

Previously we talked about Toyota launching 3 New SUVs by 2025 and the Taisor was one of them.

The rebadged Fronx is expected to be based on the Baleno/Glanza, the same as the Fronx. Elements like all-new headlamp clusters with revised bumpers, new LED DRLs, new alloys and new tail lights along with a revised rear bumper.

Going Inside, the dashboard of the Taisor is expected to be similar to the Fronx, although new colours and trim materials are expected. The seats will also likely get new upholstery. Also, while the equipment and features on the top models are expected to be similar, the rebadged Fronx will offered in fewer trims by Toyota.

The Fronx currently has two engines to offer – a 1.0-litre BoosterJet Unit that produces 100 hp and 147 Nm and 90 hp, 113 Nm producing naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine. The units are paired with a 5-speed manual as standard and also come with either a 5-speed AMT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

It is almost clear that the 1.2-litre petrol engine will be available with the Taisor, and it remains to be seen whether the BoosterJet will be carried over as well. If it does, then it will be the first Turbo-petrol motor in Toyota’s portfolio which primarily has hybrids and diesels. The fronx also comes with a CNG powertrain and is expected to be carried over to the Toyota Taisor as well.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor will mark Toyota’s return to the sub-4m SUV space after the Brezza-based Urban Cruiser was discontinued back in 2022. Apart from the Fronx, it will also rival other C-SUVs such as the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
