New BMW X2 – Bigger and better

The new X2 is now buffed up than the previous model. To be precise, the new model is 200 mm longer, 64 mm taller and 21 mm wider than the old one. The kidney grille has been expanded too (matching the current BMW line-up) and is highlighted by optional adaptive LED headlights. The luggage capacity has also been increased by 90 litres to 115 litres and now stands at 560 litres and 1,470 litres (when the rear seats are down), which also enhances the practicality of the SUV. The leg room for rear passengers has also been increased, courtesy of the increased wheelbase and wider tracks which benefits the boot space too.

The grille being bigger now, also houses the active cooling flaps, which automatically close when not required thus improving x2’s aerodynamics. Talking about aerodynamics, the SUV also gets an integrated spoiler.

Now the BMW X2 somewhat takes inspiration from the X1, but still, the overall design looks fresh and sporty.

The interior of the new X2 is also a delight with a modern premium feel yet with a sporty touch. The seats are also new which are offered in Veganza perforated and Vernasca leather with quilting variants as alternatives to the standard cloth. The seats are also equipped with memory function and have been enhanced to provide enough protection to the driver and occupants.

The instrument panel now houses the BMW’s curved display along with a floating armrest with a control panel. The centre console also sports two cup holders, and a smartphone tray and supports wireless charging. Standard safety equipment has also been updated, which now has an interaction airbag between the driver’s seat and the front passenger’s seat.

Other features include a two-zone automatic climate control, automatic tailgate, USB-C ports, steering wheel heating, and Harman Kardon sound system. panoramic sunroof (optional) and BMW’s navigation support (BMW maps).

New BMW X2 – Powertrain

The new X2 comes equipped with a 241 hp producing 2.0-litre engine with its xDrive28i variant, while the top-spec gets a more capable 2.0-litre, which churns out 312 hp. performance-wise, the former can do the 0-100 kph sprint in 6.2 seconds while the top-spec can do the same at a faster 5.2 seconds.

BMW iX2 – Performace and Charging

The iX2 has its grille completely sealed to provide better range and performance. Thanks to that, it now has a WLTP-certified range of 450 km and supports a maximum charging rate of 130 KW, like iX2. But despite sharing the same platform as the ix1, this new EV SUV gets the edge in the driving range. The charging rate, however, is much slower than rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 (Both of these can charge up to 350 kW). The software for charging has also been revised with a smoother drop-off curve, meaning full charging speed is now possible even from 50%.

Speaking of which, the EV’s regenerative braking has a similar adaptive functionality, adjusting the force of the system according to the traffic and is now capable of recharging the battery up to 120 kW when braking which can be further overridden via the infotainment console.

The iX2’s AWD dual-motor churns out 313 hp and 494 Nm of torque, meaning it completes the 0-100 kph run in just 5.6 seconds.
