New Ford SUV Patent – New EcoSport in the works?

Ford India has recently filed a design patent, which created quite a buzz since the leaked photo hints at a new sub-4m SUV, possibly the next-generation EcoSport for the Indian market.

Previously believed to be a collab between Ford and Mahindra, the front of the SUV is very much similar to the spy shot from 2020 and since it’s a sub-4m car, the potential of it being a Nexon rival is very high indeed.

Some notable features include sleek LED lights integrated into a bold grille with vertically stacked 3-piece LEDs on the lower bumper, serving both practical and aesthetic purposes. Other elements include a sliver chin, a trapezoidal secondary air dam, and a contoured bonnet adding to the overall strong appearance of the SUV.

The Ecosport was truly an SUV that holds a special place in the Indian market and also in the hearts of the consumers since this is the SUV that started the craze of the sub-4m SUV segment in India. Officially launched in 2013, the SUV quicky saw success, securing a huge fanbase over the years. However, due to the lack of a new gen EcoSport, new rivals such as the Brezza, Nexon, Venue and Sonet started to dominate the segment, leaving Ford’s sub-4m SUV in dust.

With Ford India planning to make a comeback and leaked photos raising several questions, it is very much expected that the iconic EcoSport will make a strong comeback too in the Indian market. If that’s the case, the leaked photo along with the SUV’s legacy, makes us think that the new generation EcoSport will not only give its segment rivals a hard time but also change the sub-4m SUV market in India for good.
