Lower Spec Porsche Macan EV Expected in India Soon

The Porsche Macan EV, the 2nd Generation of the brand’s smaller SUV lineup is being prepared for a global launch, with bookings open even for India, but the top-spec 639hp Macan Turbo is available here which costs a whopping Rs 1.65 crore (ex-showroom). Fortunately, more affordable, lower variants of the EV SUV will be added soon to the Indian Portfolio by Porsche later this year.

Porsche Macan EV lower variants

The new Macan EV is no longer the entry-level Porsche model like the previous-gen SUV was, thanks to its new-gen platform, state-of-the-art EV technology and large battery. However, there will be more new affordable variants added and they are likely to debut by the end of this year. Although, Porsche has not officially revealed any information yet regarding these new Macan variants, but its not that hard to guess especially when we are looking at the model range of its other products such as Taycan.

Although all of these are pure speculation, we can see the Macan 4S, a mid-range model with around 500 hp positioned between the Macan 4 and the Turbo. Despite being a lower variant, it could still be a single-motor Macan with a RWD only with a less powerful rear motor of the Macan 4. Also, Porsche has confirmed that all the Macan EV models will be sporting the same 100 kWh battery and lower variants will not be getting a smaller battery.

Now Porsche plans to discontinue the Gen 1 ICE Macan in selected markets due to some upcoming regulations and emissions norms. But fret not, this isn’t the case in every market, since there are still some places where the demand for petrol cars is still enough with no big regulations that the car won’t meet. And a even better news is that India is one of those fortunate markets where this decade-old model will continue to be on sale.

Specaking of which, the Gen 1 Macan first made its debut globally in 2014 and got two facelifts until now. In India, the SUV is being sold in 3 variants – a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Macan and two 2.9-litre 6-cylinder models, the Macan S and GTS. As for the new Macan EV, the SUV will go live on April 23, 2024.
