BYD Seal EV Sedan launched in India

BYD has launched the Seal EV Sedan in India for Rs 41 Lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, the sedan costs less than the Toyota Camry Hybrid. BYD’s current India Lineup is only the Atto 3 SUV and e6 MPV which is now joined by the Seal. Bookings are now open at a reasonable price of Rs 1.25 Lakh.

BYD Seal in India – Highlights

The BYD Seal can be expected to be quite hard to miss on roads considering the sedan is 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 in width, 1,460 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. But that’s not the reason why the sedan will be a head-turner.

The design of the BYD seal screams luxury, and while other sedans can be sometimes ignorable, the Seal will stand out from the crowd for having a design which is quite unique in the sedan segment in India.

The sedan also has a drag coefficient of 0.219 which is one of the lowest in the world. It scores very close to the Tesla Model S which has a drag coefficient of 0.208. The low drag coefficient also helps the sedan to get a beautiful profile.

Looks can be deceiving, however not in the case of the BYD Seal which makes sure the customers get a luxurious experience with leather-wrapped interiors. Features include a 15.6-inch electrically rotatable screen, a 10.25-inch full TFT LCD Instrument cluster, HUD, wireless smartphone charging, heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof and more. Safetywise too the sedan sure is packed with a comprehensive range of ADAS features and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating assurance.

The BYD Seal is available in three variants – Dynamic, Premium and Performance. Prices for BYD seal start from Rs 41 Lakh for Dynamic, Rs 45.55 Lakh for mid-spec Premium and Rs 53 Lakh (all prices ex-showroom) for top-spec Performace variant.

While the first two variants are RWD, Performance gets dual motors with AWD layout. Base Dynamic gets a 61.4 kWh battery with a 510 km range and the other two get a larger 82.5 kWh unit. The Premium is expected to get a 650 km range at best due to being a RWD unit while the Performance is claimed to go 580 km on a single charge.

BYD SEAL REAR

The top-spec performance AWD of the sedan produces a combined 530 PS and 670 Nm. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h can be achieved in just 3.8 seconds. The AWD variant further supports DC charging of up to 150 kW. BYD is also offering a 7kW home charger installation along with a 3kW portable charger and 6 6-year RSA.

There’s also an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty on the battery, a 6-year or 1,50,000 warranty on DC-DC assembly, OBC and high-voltage electric control and an 8-year or 1,50,000 km warranty on motor and controller which takes away the stress from the buyers.
