Abarth has recently revealed a retro two-seat sports coupe which is the Abarth Classiche 1300 OT to celebrate its 75th anniversary. Based on the Alfa Romeo 4C, this coupe is described as a modern reinterpretation of the 1965 Fiat-Abarth OT 1300 race car, which had won high-profile victories at the Nurburgring, Monza and Mugello. The 1300 OT follows the 1000 SP special edition from 2021, which is also based on the 4C.
Same as the special edition model which by the way sold out in record time as claimed by Abarth, just 5 examples of the 1300 OT will be produced. The car will be in production soon following the unveiling of a scale model at the parent company Stellantis’s Heritage Hub in Turin this weekend. For now, orders are open in international markets, although Abarth has not provided any pricing yet.
According to Abarth, this new Special Edition retains the essence of an authentic Abarth, thanks to its bespoke carbon fibre bodywork with a retro race livery and decorated with various 1960s-inspired elements like the roof-mounted periscope intake and louvred rear window. One of the most notable features however is the full-width engine cooling vent at the back with large Abarth lettering.
Speaking of which, the car sports a 243 hp, 1.7-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which lets the Alfa Romeo 4C go 0 to 100 kph in just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 257 kph. However, Abarth has yet to provide any details regarding the 1300 OT’s potential performance along with any new changes to the chassis.
Apart from this, the brand recently revealed its 2nd electric car and first SUV, the Abarth 600e, and will likely provide full technical details in the coming weeks.
You may or may not have heard about Abarth before, since the brand right now does not have any kind of presence. However, in the past, the company have operated in our market with cars such as the 500-based 595 Competizione and the iconic Fiat Abarth Punto. But when Fiat exited our market about 4 years ago, Abarth quit as well.
