Considering the SUV segment occupies more than 40% of the market and people mostly prefer these big boys nowadays, there are 4 Maruti Suzuki SUVs that are available in showrooms. Maruti Suzuki Gypsy – 1985
Price: Rs 6.50 – 6.64 lakh
The Gypsy was essentially the true SUV of its time. The car was everywhere. From being used in the armed forces, to rally races, to being seen during action in films, this car was the deal, the TOP G back in its day. Even today, you will spot army officers using it. The Gypsy’s 4X4 powertrain and the 4-cylinder 1.0-litre engine made it possible to go anywhere. The mileage was also decent at 14.8kmpl. The Gypsy no matter how iconic could not meet the emission and safety regulations and was discontinued in 2019.
Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 2003
Price: Rs 19.71 lakh
No, I haven’t gone mad and merged two different cars together. This was a real SUV, in fact, it was Maruti Suzuki’s global flagship and was one of the best choices of that time your money could buy. The car was a proper AWD SUV with a powerful V6 engine, but Maruti Suzuki’s economical brand image made the car feel less premium and not worth the price and the low mileage didn’t help either. Also, it was a CBU, which made the price higher and made things worse. The SUV was discontinued in 2007.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 2014
Price: Rs 9.24 lakh
The S-cross was one of the premium SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and was promised to be very capable and it kind of did since despite being premium it has low maintenance, reliability, spacious and comfortable interiors and an overall appealing design. The mileage was also around 22.07 – 23.65 kmpl. The car ultimately got discontinued in 2017 and it will receive an update soon.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Price: Rs 7.47 – 13.14 Lakh
The Fronx is the youngest member of Maruti Suzuki’s SUV family and is based on the Baleno, one of the brand’s bestselling hatches. The Fronx also resembles the Brezza a bit from the front but that’s not a bad thing since the SUV possesses good road presence, thanks to its sporty and coupe-like stance. The car unlike the Baleno has a stronger chassis which ensures good safety. The Fronx doesn’t lack features either. It has a 9-inch infotainment system, HUD, over 40 connected car features, six airbags, UV-cut glass, and more.
Under the hood, The Fronx sports an 89hp producing 1.2-litre K-series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine and a 1.0-litre K-series turbo petrol that produces 99hp. The engine is quite refined so expect the mileage to be somewhere between 20.01 and 28.51 kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Price: Rs 10.70 – 19.20 lakh
The Fronx looks great, but the Grand Vitara is truly grand when it comes to its looks and road presence. This premium-like SUV has some good features like HUD, a 9-inch infotainment system, HUD, leatherette upholstery, wireless charging, ABS with EBD, ESP, six airbags and more. If you want to get a premium experience on a budget, this SUV can be a good choice.
The Grand Vitara gets two options – a 102hp producing 1.5-litre K15C mild-hybrid or a 1.5-litre Strong hybrid that puts out a lower 91hp. The fuel economy is quite good at 27.97 kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Price: Rs 8.29 – 14.14 lakh
Arguably one of the best compact SUVs in the market, the Brezza is the one of most beautiful looking practical SUVs, just like its predecessor, the Vitara Brezza. The car is quite spacious and comfy and features some good features including LED headlamps and DRLs, Six Airbags, ESP, a 9-inch freestanding infotainment system, and more.
The Brezza has the 1.5-litre K12 petrol under the hood that produces 103hp and is quite peppy and refined. The mileage is somewhere between 17.38 – 25.51 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Price: Rs 14.70 – 17.33 lakh
The Jimny is the special one among these 4 Maruti Suzuki SUVs and let me tell you why. This car is the updated Suzuki Sierra and is a true rugged SUV that is designed for off-roading. Despite being a bit compact, it will feel big thanks to its wheelbase and it has a good road presence thanks to its refreshing design. Despite being compact, the Jimny is spacious and can fit 2 adults easily and the features include a touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, automatic climate control, and more.
The Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that produces a decent 103hp and the mileage it gives is 16.39 – 16.94, the lowest in this list but understandable since it’s an off-roading machine.
