List of all the Maruti Suzuki Sedans as of 2024

Maruti Suzuki sedans have been very popular in the Indian Market for a long time now. Whether you are a family man or a car enthusiast, the brand has a sedan for you. I mean even when you order a cab, 8/10 times it’s a Swift Dzire. Here are all the Maruti Suzuki sedans throughout the brand’s journey:

Maruti 1000 – 1990

Price: Rs 3.20 – Rs 3.40 lakh

Maruti Suzuki Sedans Maruti 1000

You may not have heard about the Maruti 1000, because it had a rather short lifespan of only 10 years when compared to other Maruti cars. This sedan was the first “luxury sedan” of the country and there were many factors that contributed to its failure: The car had a price tag of over 3 lakhs, which was very expensive for its time and also it had a lackluster 1.0-litre engine that used to produce a very low 46hp. Maruti 1000 didn’t garner much attention and the brand knew it was time to update it.

Maruti Esteem – 1994

Price: Rs 3.24 lakh, 5.17 lakh (Last recorded price in 2008)

Now what problems the 1000 had, Maruti tried to fix them with the Esteem. The esteem was the 1000 but with an updated engine. It had a much bigger and more powerful 1.3-litre engine that used to produce 65hp. But it wasn’t a luxury sedan anymore since by the time Esteem was launched, brands like Ford, Honda, and Daewoo already had sedans which were much more advanced and felt more luxurious than the Esteem. Instead, the sedan gained the reputation for being quick, thanks to its powerful engine and lightweight. The car which was aimed at the common mass market, was now used by enthusiasts in race circuits and rallies.

Maruti Baleno – 1999

Price: Rs 7.55 lakh (Last recorded in 2007)

Maruti Suzuki Sedans Maruti Baleno

Now the Baleno was like a successor, a facelifted version of Esteem. It had better design, more space, and better features. The car’s popular 4-cylinder 16-valve, SOHC engine and its dynamics made it a comparable competitor against Mitsubishi Lancer during its days in India. The Baleno sedan became a popular choice in track races and rallies, thanks to its reliability, easy-to-maintain nature and economical. The car even won several national rally championships but had a very short lifespan of 8 years.

Maruti Suzuki SX4 – 2007

Price: 7.95 lakh (Last recorded price)

The SX4 sedan was derived from the SX4 hatchback and was a replacement for Baleno. This car was a good comeback by Maruti Suzuki in the sedan segment. The car was available in 7 variants and had good interiors, performance, reliability, design and a refined engine that used to give a mileage of 16.51 – 21.79 kmpl. The sedan enjoyed popularity in its initial stages but eventually got overshadowed by competitors who provided better features and ultimately got discontinued in 2013.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire (Previously Swift Dzire) – 2008

Price: Rs 7.38 – 10.55 lakh

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

This sedan was under the umbrella of Swift since it looked like the hatchback when it launched and had quite the craze back then.  After 14 years, the car is still in production, got a makeover and some good updates, and is now mostly used by Cab services and drivers due to its low maintenance, reliability, and mileage.

Suzuki Kizashi – 2011

Price: Rs 18.98 lakh (last recorded price)

Maruti Suzuki Sedans Suzuki Kizashi

The Suzuki Kizashi is an example of a good product launched at a bad time. The car had good looks, spacious and comfortable interiors and reliability. Maruti Suzuki back in 2011 had a reputation for being economical and selling low-cost cars. The brand image was that of a budget brand. Also, the Indian economy in those days was at a growing stage. These factors were the major reasons why the Kizashi failed in the country. The sedan was priced at around 16 – 18 lakhs in 2011, which was super-expensive during those days. The reason for the high pricing was that the car was a CBU unit.

Also, the mileage was a low 10 kmpl, which again was against what Maurti’s reputation was all about. The sales due to this reason were already low and as a result, also discouraged the buyers from buying it and the car was ultimately discontinued in 2013.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz – 2014

Price: 10.40 – 14.43 lakh

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Ciaz is the latest entry in the Maruti Suzuki sedans portfolio and is a replacement for the Kizashi and has everything like mileage, performance, good design, premium-like interiors, spacious and good features and a nice road presence. The car is still in production as of 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Sedans have struggled to place themselves in the sedan segment, but Ciaz and Dzire changed it and showed the market that Maruti Suzuki can produce capable sedans.
