Ahead of its official debut and price announcement in the market on April 3, a video of the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor has been released by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on social media platforms. The Urban Cruiser Taiser is the latest product to come out of the Toyota-Suzuki alliance and is based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx crossover.
The video shows us the styling of the upcoming Urban Cruiser Taisor which will help it differentiate from its Suzuki counterpart. The front fascia features a new honeycomb-style grille with a chrome strip sporting the Toyota badge on the nose. The LED DRLs on top are changed and now split into 2 elements unlike the tri-LEDs seen in the Fronx. Meanwhile, the headlights integrated into the front bumper and the tail lights are the same as the Maruti SUV. The overall silhouette, too, remains the same but the Urban Cruiser Taisor will probably have different alloy wheels.
The cabin layout of the SUVs is expected to be similar, featuring a freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Possible features include wireless phone charging, 360-degree cameras, HUD, cruise control, connected car tech, rear AC vents and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. Safety features include 6 airbags, ESP and hill hold assist. However, to distinguish it from the Fronx, Toyota could offer a different interior paint scheme to the Urban Cruiser Taisor.
As for powertrains, The Taisor SUV is also expected to get the Fronx’s 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder K-series engine that generates 88.5 hp and 113 Nm of Torque. The unit will likely come paired with a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed automated manual (AMT) and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic along with a CNG version of the engine is also expected. What remains to be seen is whether the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine that is currently offered in the Fronx makes its way to the Taisor.
The Urban Cruiser Taisor will stand as the fourth rebadged model Toyota will sell in the market. The others are Glanza (Based on Baleno), Rumioin (Based on Ertiga) and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder (Basically the Twin of Grand Vitara).
