The Tata Altroz Racer, which was first showcased by Tata Motors as the sportiest variant of the Altroz hatchback at the 2023 Auto Expo also made its appearance recently at the Bharat Mobility Show with a bit altered design is all set to launch in the coming weeks and it’s pretty much confirmed.
Tata Altroz Racer Coming Soon – Highlights
The Altroz Racer will be a sportier hatchback than the standard Altroz, meaning it will have a few exterior updates like a pretty cool integrated spoiler and a new dual-tone paint scheme with dual racing stripes on the roof and bonnet. It also carries the “Racer” badging on the front fenders, a refreshed grille and a newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels.
Apart from the exterior design, the interior of the sporty Altroz also gets some changes like a comprehensive list of updated features similar to the newer Tata SUVs such as the addition of the segment-first ventilated seats, a HUD, 360-degree camera, a voice-assisted sunroof and more. As far as cosmetics are concerned, the Racer will likely get new leatherette upholstery with coloured accents on the dashboard. As for safety, the hatch will get 6 airbags and ESC as standard.
One of the key highlights of the Altroz Racer however is not the design and features, but what’s powering it. The hatchback sports the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine as the Altroz iTurbo, which might sound meh until you notice it generates 120 hp and 170 Nm, which is 10 hp and 30 Nm more than the iTurbo. The tune is quite similar to the Nexon SUV and this unit will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Judging by the on-paper specs and features, the Altroz Racer will be a fine competition to the i20 N Line upon Launch, although the latter is equipped with a 7-speed DCT transmission. With the Racer from Tata, the i20 N Line will finally face some direct competition, after being a lone warrior in its segment for quite some time.
