Skoda is all set to re-launch the Superb in the Indian market on April 3, 2024, after it was discontinued with the implementation of the BS6 Phase II Emission Norms on April 1, 2023. The 3rd Gen Superb that was previously on sale here will be re-launched again, however there are some changes.
The first key change is the return of the Superb in India itself. Unlike before, the sedan will come back as a CBU unit instead of being locally assembled under the government’s GSR 870 rule which lets the manufacturers import a total of 2,500 units per year without homologation.
Also, even though the previous-gen Superb will return in India, it is expected to be imported in a single top-spec Laurin & Klement variant with new features such as ADAS tech like adaptive cruise control with speeds up to 210 kph, lane-keeping assist and park assist with a 360-degree cam. The 4th Gen of the Superb which debuted last year will likely follow after a year.
As for the powertrain, the Skoda Superb comes equipped with a BS6 Phase II-compliant 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that generates 190 hp and 320 Nm. The unit will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard and will be a FWD only. The motor will move the sedan from 0 to 100 kph in just 7.8 seconds.
Talking about pricing, the Skoda Superb was last sold in India with a price range from Rs 34.19 lakh to Rs 37.29 Lakh. However, expect it to be pricier than before since the sedan is returning as a full import and with some new features. The expected price range after launch is Rs 43-45 Lakh since this will allow the Supern to retain its competition with the Toyota Camry which is priced at Rs 46.17 Lakh.
Skoda also plans to bring back the Octavia too following the Superb in India since the new-gen model of the former has arrived, albeit also as a full-import.
