Nissan’s sporty 20-23 concept revealed

The 20-23 concept has been revealed and is basically a preview of the next-gen Micra that’s been created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nissan’s design centre in Paddington, London. The brand further states that the 20-23 concept draws inspiration from Formula E and respects the brand’s long history of bold hot hatches.

The 20-23 Concept: City hatchback with a sporty stance

The concept is emphasized as a sporty urban hatchback, thanks to its source of inspiration. According to Nissan Design Europe’s (NDE) team, the design was made by keeping “a car with no constraints” in mind. The car is extremely futuristic and sporty, giving the “Bladerunner vibes” with the unique circular headlight design with similar circular tail lights at the rear, scissor doors that look cool, huge diffusers at the front and rear, rear wing, outsized wheel arches, a huge spoiler and low-profile racing tyres.

Since, the Micra EV will be based on the CMF-BEV platform that Renault also uses as an alliance, expect the car to be similar to Renault 5 and Alpine A290. Despite having similar proportions, the 20-23 concept is the best design concept yet from Nissan.

The 20-23 concept is likely based on the Nissan hatchback that was teased last year.

Nissan 20 23 concept vs Nissan 2022 hatchback concept

The hatchback concept has a similar silhouette to that of the 20-23 concept, except the former appears to have more ground clearance and is more realistic and grounded than the latter. However, they do have similar headlight design too, and it’s yet to be seen how much the production model use the design language of both of these concept. But one thing is for sure, the 20-23 concept will become a dream project for car enthusiasts all over the globe, especially those who own a Nissan Micra.

Inside, the concept has the bare minimum features with a yoke-style steering wheel instead of the traditional round shape with all the driver-related controls placed in the steering wheel itself. There is no AC either with the roof feeding air into the cabin.

The driver and passenger have to climb over the foam-covered brace bars to access the bucket seats. The paddles are located behind the steering which will feature regenerative brakes and let you change the performance.

Nissan 20 23 concept Interior

Note that this concept’s interiors will not likely be fully used in the production models since it’s a “futuristic interpretation of the bare functionality of a racing car” and only some elements like the steering wheel design and the interior design. The exterior will likely be the one that will heavily inspire Micra’s design language.

The 20-23 concept: Next-gen Micra EV

Nissan Micra EV Representation

The Micra EV will be built at Renault’s ElectriCity production hub in Northern France alongside the Renault 5 and will also share the power figures. The Micra EV will have a range of up to 421 km and is expected to be offered in two battery packs – a 42kWh producing 125 hp and a larger 52kWh that churns out 150 hp.

The Micra was also sold in India a few years ago (And we got the iconic “Chala Jata hoon” Micra Ad) and currently only sells the Magnite SUV in India. If demand for premium hatchback EVs rises, it might be launched here too. But expect the car to be pricey. The Micra EV will go into production by 2026 and will be Nissan’s first big step in its plans to go full electric in the next 7 years.

Recently Volkswagen also unveiled its ID.GTI concept that is a futuristic EV take on the iconic GTIs and the brand also plans to launch it at a later date.
