New Force Gurkha – Highlights
Currently, the only contender of the Gurkha in the Indian market is the Mahindra Thar which is only available in a 3-door format, at least for now. However, Mahindra’s Lifestyle SUV only gets a petrol engine option, 2WD options and automatic gearbox options whereas the Rugged Gurkha only gets a diesel-manual form with 4WD as standard.
The Gurkha also gets some updated features including a 9.0-inch infotainment system, a new digital instrument cluster, powered ORVMs, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear camera, tilt and telescopic steering adjust, a tyre pressure monitoring system and more.
Considering the Gurkha 3-door is priced at Rs 16.75 Lakh which is Rs 1.75 more than the Thar AX Optional 4WD’s price, the new features of the Gurkha make the price premium over the Entry-level Thar justified. Also, the Gurkha 5-door is currently without a competitor, until the Thar 5-door AKA Thar Armada arrives in the segment.
As for the powertrain, both versions of the Force Gurkha get the same 2.6-litre Mercedes-sourced diesel engine that has been revised to generate 140 hp and 320 Nm. This makes the Gurkha more powerful than the Thar, which is powered by a 132 hp, 2.2-litre diesel unit.
