The BMW i4 electric sedan is the latest model in the German automobile brand’s portfolio to receive an extensive update in the form of a facelift. The i4 was BMW’s best-selling electric last year with more than 83,000 sales while the i4 M50 xDrive secured the best-selling M model in both 2022 and 2023.
The newly updated i4 gets new technology, extensive changes in the cabin and subtle changes on the outside in order to keep the sedan alive and relevant against the increasing number of rivals.
Both the i4 variants get big changes from the inside. BMW has added a smaller gear selector similar to many of its other electrics, including the iX3 and iX1 SUVs. It has also changed the shape of the climate control air vents making it more minimalistic, which utilises small rotary switches. Both the cars come equipped with BMW’s Drive 8.5-inch infotainment screen and an updated steering wheel with illuminated buttons. Meanwhile, the i4 M variant gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
The standard i4 gets a new matt silver honeycomb patterned closed-off grille with a matte chrome kidney. In the M sport variant, it gets a refreshed gloss black rear diffuser. The most noticeable changes however are the light units which are now sharper at the front and rear. The high and low beams are now produced from a single LED unit.
Globally, the i4 currently has 3 trims – the base i4 eDrive35 which has 295 hp of power and up to 500 km of range, the mid-range i4 Drive40 which has a higher output of 295 hp and up to 600 Km of range and the top-spec i4 M50 xDrive which packs 544 hp of power and up to 520 km of range.
Although BMW India has yet to provide a timeline for the i4 facelift’s arrival in the Indian market, there’s a chance that the facelifted sedan will come here. Currently, the outgoing i4 has been on sale here since 2022 and is available in only the mid-spec Drive40 trim which is priced at Rs 72.50 Lakh, ex-showroom, India.
