New 2024 Maruti Swift Engine Specs Revealed

Suzuki recently launched the new Swift in Japan, meaning we can now guess what the India-bound hatchback will bring. Earlier when the new Swift was showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, the engine specs remained in the shadows and now with its launch, but now we get the exact details of the unit.

New Gen Maruti Swift

New-Gen Swift – Is the new mill weaker?

The new Swift in the Japanese market comes with a 1,197 cc, 12-valve DOHC engine that makes 82 hp at 5,700 RPM and 108 Nm at 4,500 RPM paired with a CVT gearbox. The hatch will also get a mild-hybrid option that will likely add 3.1 hp and 60 Nm of torque from a DC synchronous motor. The fuel efficiency of both the standard and mild-hybrid stand at 23.4 kpl and 24.5 kpl, on the WLTP cycle respectively. A 4WD version of the new Swift will also be offered in Japan.

Now the efficiency and the torque of the Z series will be an improvement over the K series, but that only means that the Z12E would be losing the rev-free nature of the K12. For comparison, the current K12 mill in the Swift is a 4-cylinder, 90 hp and 113 Nm torque-producing unit. The new Z12 will use the new 3-pot engine that is claimed to focus on stronger pulling power at the bottom end of its rev range.

Suzuki Swift 2024

While the upcoming India-bound Swift which is due in the second half of 2024 will have the same Z12E engine as the Japan model, the exact figures of the power and mileage still remain unknown. A mild-hybrid option is a possibility upon launch but the chances of a CVT gearbox coming to our shores are highly unlikely. The upcoming hatch will likely continue with an AMT transmission along with a 5-speed manual gearbox and will only come in FWD, unlike the Japan model.

2024 Swift Interior

As for the Price, with the new Swift coming with a new refreshed styling, new technological upgrades and features borrowed from the Baleno and Fronx, and also being the first Maruti Suzuki car to be equipped with ADAS, expect the price of the Swift to increase by a good margin.
