Maruti Suzuki has been leading almost every segment in India, and now they are also entering the EV segment with their upcoming eVX electric SUV, which is currently undergoing test runs on Indian roads.
The eVX began its journey as a concept back at the 2023 Auto Expo, where it was unveiled and was then seen in disguise doing test runs in Poland. It was shown in an almost production-spec unit at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show alongside the new Swift.
Recent Spy shots of the eVX testings emerged in India which took place in Gurgaon near the Maruti Suzuki plant. The new EV will be built on Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard-derived platform and the the production will occur at the brand’s Gujrat plant.
Maruti Suzuki eVX – Specifications and Features
Coming to the specs, the Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV will likely be 4,300 mm in length, 1,800 in width and 1,600 mm in height and will feature a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. The EV features an upright front with L-shaped headlamps, wrap-around taillights, an integrated roof spoiler and an overall coupe-SUV crossover-like body. It’s safe to say that the exterior design resembles the concept version.
Inside, the eVX showcases a spacious interior with two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, adjustable power switches and power seats, a tall dashboard with a floating central digital instrument console and a large infotainment panel. Other features include ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, and a rotary drive mode selector. Safety features include multiple airbags and ADAS functions.
Heart and Pricing of the Upcoming eVX
The eVX concept was initially powered by a 60 kWh battery, however, the production-spec unit will come with a smaller 48 kWh battery with a driving range of 440 km. The eVX is a result of a collaboration between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota and this EV will likely come before its Toyota counterpart. The eVX is also set to release as the first Maruti Suzuki EV in India and will challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta EV, Seltos EV, Tata Nexon EV MAX and Mahindra XUV400.
Expect the EV to launch by 2025 and though official pricing is not yet disclosed, expect it to fall in the price range of Rs 18-22 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki also promised competitive pricing for the eVX thanks to its significant level of localization.
It will also be interesting to see if Maruti Suzuki also dominates the EV segment in India, since considering the overall specs sheet and looks of the SUV, it has the potential to dominate in the market if the pricing is right, which honestly Maruti Suzuki mostly gets right.
