Mahindra Thar 5-door variant has been spied on yet again, and this time it hints at the production of the much-awaited car coming closer. Also believed to be named Thar Armada upon its official introduction, the test mule of the car has been spotted during its runs for a year now across the nation.
The latest spy shots also hint at the Thar 5-door getting 3 different variants, with the base variant sporting steel wheels. The mid-spec variant will possibly get the 5-spoke alloy wheels while the 19-inch multi-spoke diamond-cut alloys will be reserved for the higher-end variants.
Other design elements include a new grille, a rear wiper, refreshed bumpers and a remote fuel-filling cap over the 3-door. The top variants will also get LEDs all around.
Going inside, the Thar 5-door can be seen sporting beige-coloured seats on the top model. Mahindra will also offer different interior themes for the Armada, unlike the 3-door Thar that gets an all-black layout as standard. Older spy shots suggest that the SUV will feature a slightly redesigned dashboard to incorporate a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system from the XUV400. The Thar 5-door will also get a similarly sized fully digital driver’s display, front and rear centre armrests, push-button start-stop, rear AC vents, a sunroof and more.
As for the powertrain, the Thar Armada is expected to go ahead with Scorpio N’s 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines with similar power outputs. The SUV will have both the 4WD and 2WD options on offer to target a wider range of buyers.
The Thar 5-door will go live in the 2nd half of this year and will be Mahindra’s next big launch after the XUV 3XO. The SUV will most probably have a slightly higher price point than the Scorpio N, meaning it could start from Rs 15 lakh – 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
Upon launch, the Mahindra 5-door will compete with the Force Gurkha 5-door, which is also going to launch very soon.
