The much anticipated Kia Sonet facelift has finally made its debut in New Delhi today after we reported about its launch last month. The new facelift features not only a refreshed exterior design but also two new segment-first features. Bookings will commence from 20th December onwards and for now, Kia has kept the pricing a secret and will be announced next month at launch.
Kia Sonet facelift 2024 – Refreshed design but same variants
The exterior design has been completely refreshed in the new Sonet to keep it in line with the newer Kia models. The Front fascia has been revised with the LED DRL now larger than before and more aggressive. However, the 3-chamber LED headlight looks identical to the pre-facelift model and that’s fine because it already looks good. Halogen projector fog lights have been replaced with horizontal LED units.
Coming to the rear, the tail lights see a major change. The tail lights are now connected with a bar in the middle which increases the overall aesthetics of the new Sonet. The rear bumper also looks sharper than before. The Alloys are also new with 2 16-inch designs depending on the trims. There’s not much change in the profile of the car, which is understandable considering this update is not a generational gap but a facelift of the 1st Gen Sonet.
The Sonet Facelift is available in 8 monotone colours – Pewter Olive (New Colour Option), Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Sparkling Silver, Imperial Blue and Clear White. There are also 2 dual-tone shades offered with Aurora Black Pearl roof – Glacier Pearl and Intense Red.
The Sonet Facelift will continue with the existing trim levels – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+ under the Tech line, GTX+ under the GT Line and X Line. The Alloy wheel from the pre-facelift model is retained only with the X Line.
Kia Sonet facelift – New segment-first features
There are also no design differences on the interior except the new fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster that is also used by the new Seltos facelift. Apart from that, the segment’s first features are – a 4-way electrical adjustment in the driver’s seats and traction modes on top of engine drive modes. These traction modes change the traction control system through their algorithms to help the new SUV glide its way out of sticky (or muddy) situations. The modes are Mud, Sand and Wet.
Other features in the new Kia Sonet facelift are a built-in air purifier, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, steering mounted controls, keyless entry, cooled glove box, cruise control, auto climate control, rear AC vents, rear sunshades, 6 airbags, multiple electronic safety nets, front armrest, premium bose speakers with a subwoofer, a single-pane sunroof, push-button start, a front camera, a Level 1 ADAS safety system with 10 features and more.
Kia Sonet facelift 2024 – Powertrains
The new Sonet now gets a new diesel manual combo. Other than that it sports the same engine options as the pre-facelift model – a 118hp and 172Nm producing 1.0L 3-cylinder GDI turbo Petrol with either 6iMT and 7DCT, a 114hp and 250Nm 1.5L 4-Cylinder engine with either a 6MT, 6iMT or 6TC and a G1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol that produces 82hp and 115MT and is paired with 5MT.
Kia Sonet facelift – First Impressions
The Sonet facelift looks like a promising update on paper with an all-new aggressive body makeover and also adding two segment-first features considering the Sonet was due for an update for a long time. The colour choices are also very nice and the overall new design of the car matches the “The Wild. Reborn” tagline.
