Kia EV9, the brand’s upcoming flagship EV SUV has been recently spotted for the first time in India during test runs. Interestingly the test mule is not in disguise, so expect it to launch soon, probably by the end of this September and will enter India via the CBU route, just like the EV6 did.
Kia EV9 – Bolder than the heading
Before talking about anything else, let’s talk about how massive the EV9 is. The SUV is 5,015 in length, 1,980 in width and 1,780 in height, which makes other cars on the road look puny in comparison, to the point that it won’t be wrong to be called a tank on four wheels. Being this big, the car has a good interior and boot space along with a menacing appearance with sculpted panelling everywhere. The SUV will sport LED headlamps with Z-shaped DRLS, a prominent bumper and a closed-off grille.
Coming to the side, the EV gets thick body cladding, practical roof rails, sporty 21-inch alloys, door-mounted ORVMs with integrated turn signals and polygonal wheel arches. At the rear, the SUV gets Y-shaped LED tail lights on both sides and a rear spoiler with integrated brake light and a rear wiper hidden underneath it, giving the rear profile a sleek and clean look.
Now, the Interior space is good as mentioned earlier, and buyers can further customize it with 60:40 split remote folding 2nd-row seats with headrests and 50:50 split remote folding 3rd-row seats. The storage spaces are also designed quite cleverly.
The SUV also gets features which are on the premium side such as USB charging ports for all the passengers, heated and ventilated front and 2nd-row seats, 3-zone climate control, automatic defog system, heated steering wheel, regenerative paddle shifters, electronic rear view mirror, height adjustable smart power tailgate and more.
Other features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation support, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5.3-inch climate control screen, digital key, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charger, USB-C ports, fingerprint recognition and ADAS.
The Kia EV9 gets 3 powertrain options to choose from – the Base RWD variant is equipped with a 76.1 kWh battery, connected to a 215hp producing single electric motor with a range of 230 miles, the long-distance variant has a 99 kWh battery connected to a 201hp single electric motor with a range of 304 miles and a dual motor that produces 379hp of max power output with a range of 280 miles.
The SUV EV also comes with both fixed and portable charging options with support for fast charging that allows users to charge 154 miles in just 15 minutes and 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes. The EV9 also has Vehicle to load capability which can be used to charge various electronic equipment.
Coming to the pricing the EV9 is expected to be launched in the Rs 75 lakh – 85 lakh range since the EV6 is currently sold for Rs 60.95 lakh – Rs 65.95 lakh in India and is also the most expensive Kia here.
