BYD India recently announced that the Seal electric sedan which was launched on March 5 has crossed over 1,000 bookings in just two-and-a-half months. BYD stated that it had earlier received 200 bookings for the Seal within the 1st week of the commencement of bookings on Feb 28 and 1st 500 within 15 days of the launch.
BYD Seal Crosses 1000 Bookings Mark – Surpasses Hyundai Ioniq 5!
This 1,000 bookings milestone is rather an important achievement for BYD considering the company has a small footprint in the Indian market combined with the fact the Seal EV is a CBU. The prices of the sedan start at Rs 41 Lakh for the base Dynamic variant and go up to Rs 53 Lakh for the top-spec Performance AWD variant.
In fact, despite having a smaller market share here compared to more famous brands like Hyundai, the Seal EV managed to surpass the number of bookings of the Ioniq 5, which secured 650 orders in two-and-a-half months, so there’s another importance of this milestone.
The Sedan is available with two battery options – 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh with BYD’s patented blade technology. While the Dynamic variant gets the smaller battery pack that powers a single 204hp/310 Nm motor on the rear axle and provides a claimed range of 510 km, the Premium and Performance variants get the larger battery. But while the former gets a 312hp/360Nm motor mounted at the rear axle, the performance gets a 530hp/670Nm dual-motor AWD setup which can run 0-100 kph in just 3.8 seconds.
When it comes to charging, the Seal is capable of charging at speeds of up to 150 kW with 10-80% taking 37 minutes and an 11 kW AC charger taking 8.6 hours to charge 0-100%. Furthermore, the Seal is also capable of Vehicle to Load charging, which the company states to be helpful during camping and outdoor activities.
BYD currently has 24 showrooms across 21 cities, and the dealers say that regardless of the variant and battery option, buyers who book their Seal will get it within 2 months’ time.
