Tata Safari facelift is launched and can finally seen on display in dealerships with its sibling, the Harrier facelift, which was launched alongside the Safari. The base smart MT variant of the Safari facelift starts at Rs 16.19 lakh, ex-showroom, which is the introductory price, so expect the pricing to go up after a few months. Earlier this month, Tata opened the bookings of both the Safari and Harrier facelifts, at the time they were revealed.
Tata Safari facelift – What’s new?
The safari facelift just like the new Harrier, gets cosmetic updates on the outside and some new features on the inside. The Safari now looks a bit different from the Harrier, thanks to the updated front part, which features a bigger split grille, silver-finished faux skid plate, bigger headlamp clusters in the bumpers, and a LED light bar that sits above the grille like a crown.
On the rear side, the SUV gets a new light signature and redesigned bumpers with rectangular housings for the reflectors and reverse lights. The tail-light design remains the same.
Inside, the Safari is quite similar to the Harrier, except the former gets a different finish on the dashboard. Other than that, the Safari gets two touchscreen sizes 10.25 and 12.3-inch, which differ according to the variant, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a touch-based panel for HVAC controls, 4-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo, dual-zone climate control, 10-speaker JBL sound system, and more.
Even the safety features are similar to the Harrier like the 7 airbags with 6 as standard across all variants, hill assist, ADAS, 3-point seatbelts, and more.
Tata Safari facelift – Powertrain
The engine is also the same one Safari has been using, which is a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque and mated with a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Note that the automatic options are available from the Adventure+ variant only, just like the Harrier.
Tata Safari facelift – Trims and colours
So, the Safari facelift also ditches the old trim names to adopt the new ‘persona-based’ names and now features 4 core trims – Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished, while the additional packages which consist of some extra features have an ‘A’ or ‘+’ suffix.
The SUV has three driving modes – Eco, Sport and City, and three terrain response modes – Normal, Rough and Wet. The Safari facelift is offered in 6 colours – Cosmic Gold, Lunar Slate, Stardust Ash, Steller Frost, Supernova Copper and Galactic Shappire with the Oberon Black being the 7th option but treat it differently, because it is exclusive to the Dark edition variants. Furthermore, these trims come with their own unique exterior and interior colour options.
However, it would have been better if an AWD option was available, then the SUV would have surely followed the same. Tata also launched the Harrier facelift along with this SUV.
