Kia Sonet facelift which will hit Indian showrooms in the coming 3-4 months is finally out of its cover. The car has been spotted previously as camouflaged test mules, but this is the first we can see its complete exterior look.
Kia Sonet facelift – Design
Now the Kia Sonet facelift we see in the pictures is the one that will go on sale in the overseas market, meanwhile In India, Kia confirmed that the Sonet will feature slightly differently looking front and rear bumpers.
Currently, the bumper gets a redesigned faux skid plate and mesh for central air intake, and the grille inserts also seem to be updated. The bumpers seem to be that of the HT line variant, meaning the GT Line variants will likely get a different bumper design.
Apart from that the Kia Sonet is longer than 4 meters in length and the updates will be strictly limited to plastic parts only. There is a noticeable bumpers and headlamp design updates, with the headlamps now having a drop-down element with revised LED and fog lamps.
At the back, the tail lamp design has been replaced with new vertical units that are connected by an LED light bar. The rear bumper is also chunkier now with a dual-tone black and silver finish. Although the alloy wheels don’t seem to have got any update.
Kia Sonet facelift – Interior
This exterior reveal does not give us any clue as to what really on the inside of the Kia Sonet facelift is equipped with but some previous spy shots taken when the car was still under wraps suggest the car will feature an updated switchgear for HVAC controls, an armrest for the rear seat, and a new brown coloured upholstery. To know more you will have to have some patience.
Kia Sonet facelift – Powertrain
The Sonet facelift is expected to continue with the 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 83 hp and 115 Nm of torque, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol that produces 120 hp and 172 Nm of torque and the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 116 hp and 250 Nm of torque. While the petrol engine will likely be mated to a 5-speed manual, the turbo-petrol and diesel units are expected to be paired with the 6-speed iMT as the outgoing model along with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a 6-speed automatic.
Kia Sonet facelift – India timeline and rivals
The Kia Sonet is one of the most popular SUVs in India thanks to its affordability and good looks, and the facelifted variant is expected to launch in the next 3-4 months as I stated earlier, albeit with a price hike.
The Sonet will rival the likes of Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon and more in the segment.
