The 2024 BMW X2 has been teased and it seems that the SUV has gotten a heavy makeover. Now, the car is still in the shadows, but from the teaser, the shape of the silhouette and the design of the front made it pretty clear that the car has been updated.
2024 BMW X2: Some “eXciting” changes
That is what BMW claims in their new teaser post. The new-gen X2 abandoned its hatchback-like stance for Coupe-SUV crossover proportions. The car will also adopt a new sweeping roofline similar to the X4 and X6 models, which is understandable considering the new X2 is the younger cousin of the two of them.
The front design has also changed, with headlights similar to X1 and C-shaped LED DRLs. The real highlight is the updated grille which now matches with the newer SUVs and the addition of an illuminated surround on the grille.
Apart from that, there are also signs of an integrated rear spoiler and possibly high-mounted taillights.
2024 BMW X2: To have X1’s styling
Despite being the X4 and X6’s cousin, when it comes to styling, the new X2 will be the style-focused sibling of the X1, just like the X4 does for the X3 and X6 for the X5.
As a result, from both Inside and outside, the redesigned X2 will likely use the FAAR platform which is also used by the current X1 and will be similar, with the primary difference being the slightly less headroom and boot space, due to the sloping roof.
Although no preview on the interior has been given, you can expect the new X2 to come equipped with X1’s 10.7-inch infotainment screen and BMW’s curved Display with the 10.25-inch digital driver display.
2024 BMW X2: Powertrain and its EV counterpart
That being said, there aren’t any powertrain details but the BMW X2 will likely get petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains with outputs up to 326 hp.
What’s really confirmed is the upcoming all-electric version of the new X2 named the iX2. This SUV will be equipped with X1’s 313 hp twin motor, meaning this car is also capable of going 0 to 100 kph in just 5.6 seconds.
The EV will also get a 66.4 kWh battery pack similar range of 440 km as the iX1, and the charging speeds peak at 130 kW.
2024 BMW X2: Launch timeline and rivals
As per BMW chairman Oliver Zipse, both the X2 and iX2 will be launched by the end of 2023 in global markets. The brand also launched the iX1 EV SUV this week for Rs 66.9 lakh, which is the all-electric counterpart of BMW’s best-selling SUV in India, the X1.
The iX2 will compete against the likes of VW ID 5, Lexus RZ, Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback and Volvo C40, while Its ICE counterpart X2 will compete with Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40.
The BMW X2 M35i is also making a comeback since it was spotted testing at the Nürburgring and will fight against Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 with a 300 hp turbo 4-cylinder engine capable of going 0 to 100 kph in 5.4 seconds.
