New Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R to re-enter India

Good news for Indian Kawasaki fans, since the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R is now making a comeback in the Indian market by the end of this year. The bike previously went off sale after the BS6 norms came and Kawasaki said “Sike!” and brought the Ninja ZX6R which now comes with several new updates and Euro-5 and BS6.2 compliance.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R – Design

The new Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R now gets a new design language apart from the theme Kawasaki has been using for so long and has a more mean-looking set of ED headlamps with a windscreen. The side fairings are also refreshed and now house integrated winglets which give the bike a “track bike” feel.

While the previous bike had the iconic Kawasaki look, which you recognize at a glance, the bike will make anyone take a second glance. It looks and feels angrier, maybe because it came back after almost 3 years.

The bike also gets a new 4.3-inch TFT display with Bluetooth support and the brand has moved from petal discs to round ones. Talking about discs, the bike also features new dual 310mm Front Discs with Dual Radial-Mounted 4-piston Monobloc Calipers.

Also, you don’t get ABS on this bike, rather you get the Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS) which is basically the brand’s version of ABS.

Apart from that the ZX6R also gets some new features – 3 power and riding modes, 3 levels of traction control, a quickshifter, and interestingly an ECO riding indicator in the TFT display. (Splendor has a new competitor now, just kidding!)

The bike now runs on Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tyres and has a weight of 198 kg.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R – Engine

The engine is a 636 cc Inline 4-cylinder DOHC unit that will talk to you at 16,000 RPM which you will always try to cross once you get the hang of it. (Ride safe though).

But the sad news is the peak power is now 129 hp, down by 1 hp while the peak torque also reduces from 70.8 Nm to 69 Nm, due to the changes made to meet the emission norms.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R – Rivals and Price

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R does not have any direct rivals in India, however, the closest competitor in terms of specs and price will be the Triumph Street Triple RS, whose deliveries recently commenced in India. While the Triumph is a bit more powerful (only by 1 hp at 130 hp), lighter (188 KG, while the Ninja is 198) and torquier at 80 Nm than the Ninja, the Kawasaki has a higher 4,000 Rpm rev, so the riding experience will be different. The design language is also different, while the Triple RS is a Naked Streetfighter, the Ninja is a faired sport bike.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R old vs new

Expect the price to be around Rs 11.50 to 12 lakh since the old ZX6R used to be on sale under Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). If the pricing is just as expected this bike will rival the Street Triple RS, priced at Rs 11.80 lakh.
