Renault Kardian, the new compact SUV is set to make its global debut on October 25, 2023, as confirmed by the brand. The urban SUV will first be unveiled in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the above-mentioned date and then will hit the showrooms in Latin America, followed by other countries.
Renault Kardian – Based on?
The Kardian SUV will be Renault’s smallest SUV in most markets where the Kiger isn’t available, which will be a lot of markets since Kiger isn’t sold in many places outside India. The Kardian is based on the Darcia Sandero and shares the same CMF-B platform with it. The SUV is primarily aimed at South America and any market where the Darcia isn’t available and will compete with the small SUVs from other brands.
Apart from the platform, the Kardian will also share some body panels, and powertrain but will have its own design cues that will give it a proper SUV stance.
Renault Kardian – Outside and Inside
The Kardian will get a coupe-SUV crossover bodyshell with good ground clearance. The car will feature a double-layer grille, a tall bumper, split headlamps and a chin with faux brushed aluminium skidplate.
At the rear, the SUV will have a C-shaped design similar to the Kiger. Meanwhile, the higher trims will get cooler alloy wheels, a shark-fin antenna, Chrome touches here and there, and roof rails.
Coming to the Interior, the dashboard design is similar to other Renault cars, featuring an 8-inch multimedia screen, a four-spoke steering wheel, and a drive mode selector. Along with that, depending on the variant, the interior will have faux brushed aluminium and wood inserts.
Renault Kardian – Powertrain
The Kardian SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and might it be the same one used on the Magnite and Kiger in India, but only time will tell. The SUV will be placed below the 2nd Generation Duster, which is currently on sale in Brazil.
Renault Kardian – Future plans in India
The Kardian, being aimed at the Latin American markets the reason it will not likely come to Indian shores. Also, the localized SUV Renault Kiger is already on sale here, which is the Indian version of the Kardian, so there’s another reason why it might skip India.
Renault currently sells the Kiger and Triber in India, both of which are based on the CMF-A plus platform, and the all-new Duster is also expected to join the roaster by Diwali 2025, which is needed considering Renault still sells the first gen Duster here.
