The next-gen Nissan Patrol has entered its testing phase as indicated by the recent spy shots. The car has been spotted in many places such as the Middle East and North America. Codenamed the Patrol Y63 internally, this iconic flagship SUV takes on the likes of the Land Cruiser 300.
Nissan Patrol Y63– Design and Features updates
The basic design of the Patrol Y63 was previewed earlier this year by the Infiniti QX Monograph concept and confirms the next-gen Petrol will be a notch higher in luxury compared to the QX80 SUV.
Though under a black cover, the new Patrol seems to sport a new body shell which is very different from its predecessor. But it will retain its ruggedness and the boxy look with an upright front and flat tailgate.
The new Patrol looks more squarish around the edges, unlike the current model. The headlights are sharper than before along with C-shaped LED DRLs and a larger grille on the front. Talking about the back, the tail lights are angular and positioned vertically on both sides of the tailgate.
Though there’s no information related to the interior and features of the car, the Patrol SUV is expected to have more creature comforts, features for convenience, and added technology such as ADAS and other safety features.
Nissan Patrol Y63 – Powertrain
The Nissan Patrol Y63 will actually have a heart transplant and will ditch the V8 petrol engine for a more powerful but smaller displacement twin-turbo V6 unit that will also take fuel economy and emission norms into account. Expect the SUV to come equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission though there’s no official information yet, but its also rumored that the new Patrol will not get a diesel engine option.
Nissan Patrol Y63 – Launch details
Nissan has the Patrol SUV planned for global debut in a few months but there are no launch details yet. As for India, Nissan did consider the outgoing Patrol Y62 (Current model), but it didn’t reach our shores. Given the current scenario of a sudden surge in SUV sales here, there’s a chance Nissan might bring the Patrol Y63 here, but there’s no official information about that yet.
For now, Nissan has plans to introduce the X-trail in India alongside the Magnite. Well, Nissan two months ago also announced that they will add 6 new cars in the Indian lineup so it’s yet to see whether Nissan finds a market for the new Patrol here.
