New Honda CBR650R and CB650R Teased with E-Clutch for India Launch

Honda is all set to launch 2 new motorcycles in the Indian market. The brand teased two bikes, or rather their silhouettes, which appear to be of the CBR650R and CB650R. Although the MY25 models of these bikes were launched earlier this year in India, this launch seems to be bringing Honda’s latest E-Clutch system with the 2 bikes.

Honda currently sells its bikes using the E-Clutch technology in the international market. The system will increase the weight of the CBR650R to 211 kilos, which is an increase of 2 kg over the current model. It allows the riders to shift gears without the need to engage the clutch lever while still giving riders the option to use the manual clutch.

The E-Clutch tech is claimed to take inspiration from Honda’s quick shifter and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) system and is made to work with a regular gearbox setup. Here, the clutch is engaged electronically using actuators which are triggered by sensors.

This system furthermore takes control of the clutch operation when the rider stops the bike and prevents any mishap from happening in traffic, like stalling. The brand also ensures that the rider engagement remains unaffected and provides an option to customise the gear shift feel. The riders can choose between soft, medium and hard resistance levels, which will work for both upshifts and downshifts.

The new CBR650R and CB650R with the E-clutch system are expected to remain unchanged in design and overall style, except for the e-clutch branding on the bikes. The clutch case will also be a bit more prominent than before. As for the engine, the bikes will retain the same 648 cc inline-4 four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which generates 94 bhp of peak power and 63 Nm of peak torque.

Currently, no official information has been given on the launch timeline of the new Honda CBR650R and CB650R with the E-clutch technology. Since the teaser is out, the launch is confirmed to happen and will likely debut soon in India. As for pricing, the new bikes with the E-clutch system are expected to boast an increased price tag over the current models.
